Job Title: Development and Marketing Manager

Job Summary: The Development and Marketing Manager is responsible for managing the organization’s development and marketing strategy including supervision of staff; ensuring optimal donor, volunteer and public engagement.

Reports to: Director of Development

Classification: Exempt

Salary Range: $68,425 (Median) to $82,110 (Maximum)

Job Location: Duluth, MN

Essential Functions:

1. Cultivate positive relations with program participants, agency and community partners, volunteers, donors, staff and other constituents upholding our organization’s commitment to treating all with fairness, dignity and respect.

2. Keep up to date on industry trends, have working knowledge of the Feeding America Partner Food Bank Agreement requirements, information contained on HungerNet, and the Learning Hub, as it relates to the Development and Marketing Manager position.

3. Manage the organization’s annual fund including multi-channel direct response (direct mail, email, social media, website, digital) and monthly sustainer program. Develop and implement strategies to engage, cultivate, retain and steward donors.

4. Manage the organization’s special events, campaigns, food and fund drives.

5. Support the development and implementation of a mid-level giving program including personal identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.

6. Manage the maintenance, implementation, training, support and utilization of DonorPerfect, Constant Contact, and other development and marketing technology.

7. Manage the organization’s multi-channel marketing plan. Develop and implement strategies to optimize donor, volunteer and public engagement.

8. Manage marketing materials and messaging across all channels including print, email, social media, website, digital to ensure brand consistency (voice, tone, logos, marks, graphics, colors, typography, fonts, photography, etc.) and accurate representation of the organization’s mission, vision, values, programs and services.

9. Oversee the respectful gathering and ethical use of stories, photos, videos and testimonials for marketing materials adhering to established compensation and privacy policies and procedures.

10. Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with media outlets and strategic communication partners. Develop and implement strategies to optimize media placement, visibility and coverage.

11. Assist in representing the organization at regional meetings and events relevant to and programs.

Financial Management

12. Support the development of a departmental budget by the Director of Development by the established deadline.

13. Support the control of departmental expenditure in accordance with the approved budget.

14. Manage development and marketing expenditures for staffing ensuring sound management of unbudgeted overtime expense.

Personnel

15. Promote collaboration, communication, and engagement among all staff to ensure development and marketing success.

16. Recruit, interview, and make recommendations of operational hires to the Director of Development.

17. Orient, train, develop and schedule direct-report development and marketing staff.

18. Delegate responsibilities, assign and oversee tasks, supervise and evaluate the performance of direct-report development and marketing staff.

19. Ensure the training of, and adherence to, organizational policies and procedures by direct-report development and marketing staff.

20. Provide supervision to development and marketing volunteers.

21. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/education (three to five years)
Interest in hunger issue or related social services
Strong writing, interviewing and photography skills
Strong communication, interpersonal and persuasion skills
Strong organization skills and an attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Ability to work independently, exercising initiative and sound judgment
Ability to work as a team with various staff members
Computer proficiency including experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Publisher and PowerPoint); Canva, Constant Contact and WordPress
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (position requires some regional travel)

Qualifications Preferred:

Knowledge of non-profit industry
Knowledge of, or experience in, fundraising/development and/or marketing
