Marketing & Communications Coordinator

Job Description

PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE: Operational Support
DEPARTMENT: Resource Development / Marketing
REPORTS TO: Chief Development Officer (CDO)
STATUS: ☐ Exempt ☒ Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Full-Time or Part-Time (24–40 hours/week)
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $45,750 – $52,000 annually (prorated if part-time)
BENEFITS: Eligibility dependent on full-time (40 hours/week) status

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Supports the execution of organizational communications, marketing, and public relations efforts to increase visibility, strengthen brand awareness, and support fundraising initiatives. Assists with content creation, storytelling, digital communications, and marketing support for campaigns and events under the direction of the Chief Development Officer.

This role is ideal for an early-career professional looking to build experience in nonprofit marketing, communications, and development.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Execution & Support

Support implementation of the organization’s communications and marketing plan.
Assist in maintaining brand consistency across all materials and platforms.
Coordinate with staff to gather content, stories, and program updates.
Provide administrative and project support for communications and development efforts.

Content Creation & Storytelling

Draft and edit content for social media, newsletters, email communications, and website updates.
Assist in developing marketing materials including flyers, brochures, and event promotions.
Capture and organize photos, stories, and program highlights for use in communications.
Support development of donor-facing content including acknowledgements and impact stories.

Digital Communications

Maintain and update website and social media channels with current and engaging content.
Assist in managing a content calendar aligned with organizational priorities.
Track basic engagement metrics (social media, email, website) and share insights with the CDO.

Development Support (Communications-Focused)

Support fundraising campaigns through content creation and promotion.
Assist with event marketing, promotion, and follow-up communications.
Help prepare donor communications including thank-you messages and updates.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support cross-department communication needs as assigned.
Assist with photography, video, and content gathering as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Works closely with the Chief Development Officer and collaborates with program staff, site leaders, and administrative team members to gather content and support consistent messaging across the organization.

External: May interact with community partners, vendors, and media contacts as needed to support marketing efforts, event promotion, and public awareness initiatives.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:

Associate’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
0–2 years of experience in marketing, communications, social media, or related field (internships and volunteer experience count)
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Comfort using social media platforms and basic digital communication tools
Experience with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Canva, email marketing platforms, or website tools a plus
Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders professionally
Positive attitude, creativity, and willingness to learn

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

High energy level, comfortable performing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse personalities. Sound judgment, flexibility, and professionalism required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
