Overview
Upstate Prep is a fast-growing 3PL fulfillment company looking for a Lead Packer to join our fulfillment team.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is a strong packer, works well under pressure, and naturally helps the people around them. Your primary responsibility will still be packing customer orders accurately and efficiently, but you will also serve as the first point of contact for packers when questions or problems come up during the day.
Our goal with this position is simple: keep our packing team at their stations and productive by giving them an experienced person nearby who can quickly help solve problems without every question needing to go to the Warehouse Manager.
You will also play an important role in training new pickers and packers, helping them learn our systems, understand client-specific requirements, and ramp up to their expected productivity and accuracy goals.
What You'll Do
Pack Orders
- Pack customer orders accurately, efficiently, and according to each client's specific requirements.
- Maintain the same productivity and quality expectations as the rest of the packing team.
- Make sure orders are packaged correctly and shipped using the appropriate supplies, carrier, and service.
- Help identify packing processes that can be improved or made easier for the team.
Be the First Line of Support for Packers
You'll be the person packers can quickly go to when something doesn't look right.
This may include:
- Address errors or shipping issues.
- Missing items or inventory that cannot be located.
- Questions about how a specific client's order should be packed.
- Questions about inserts, labels, packaging, or special instructions.
- Finding the correct boxes, mailers, tape, inserts, or other supplies.
- Helping troubleshoot order or ShipHero issues.
- Identifying when an issue can be resolved on the floor versus when it needs to be escalated to the Warehouse Manager or Customer Support.
The goal is to solve problems quickly and keep orders moving without pulling multiple people away from their stations.
Train & Develop New Team Members
- Help train new pickers and packers on Upstate Prep's processes and expectations.
- Teach employees how to use ShipHero and follow client-specific packing instructions.
- Work alongside new employees during their ramp-up period.
- Help employees improve their speed, accuracy, and understanding of warehouse processes.
- Provide coaching and feedback to help employees reach assigned picking and packing productivity goals.
- Identify employees who may need additional training or support and communicate that to management.
Support the Warehouse Team
- Help the Warehouse Manager identify recurring packing problems or process issues.
- Assist with resolving mispicks, inventory discrepancies, damaged products, and other fulfillment issues.
- Help make sure packing stations stay organized and properly stocked with supplies.
- Assist with picking, shipping, inventory, cycle counts, receiving, or other warehouse projects when needed.
- Help reinforce warehouse procedures, quality standards, and productivity expectations.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of warehouse, fulfillment, e-commerce, or 3PL experience preferred.
- Previous experience as a lead, trainer, or high-performing warehouse employee is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of picking, packing, and shipping processes.
- Comfortable using computers, scanners, and warehouse management systems. Experience with ShipHero is a plus.
- Able to learn and remember different packing requirements for multiple clients.
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfortable making decisions when issues come up.
- Able to communicate clearly and respectfully with coworkers.
- Patient and comfortable training employees with different experience levels.
- Able to balance your own workload while helping other team members.
- Dependable and able to take ownership without needing constant supervision.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move boxes throughout the workday.
Who Will Do Well in This Role
This position is a great fit for someone who is already one of the people coworkers naturally come to when they have a question.
You don't need to know everything on day one, but you should be someone who likes solving problems, helping teammates improve, and keeping operations moving.
We're looking for someone who can be both a high-performing packer and a leader on the floor without needing to be a traditional supervisor.
If you're dependable, organized, good under pressure, and take pride in helping a team perform at a high level, we'd like to hear from you.
