Employee Health Nurse and Infection Prevention Nurse

Location: Brooks Memorial Hospital

Job Description

The Employee Health and Infection Prevention Nurse serves as the lead clinician responsible for the day-to-day implementation, coordination, documentation, and regulatory reporting of the hospital’s Employee Health Program. This role holds primary accountability for all employee health operations, including new hire clearance, immunization compliance, tuberculosis surveillance, respiratory protection, occupational exposure management, and NYS DOH reporting.
This role also functions as a backup resource to the Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) Program and supports CMS data abstraction activities, including but not limited to SEP-1. The incumbent ensures continuity of infection prevention operations as needed and contributes to regulatory compliance, data integrity, and quality improvement initiatives under the direction of the IP/EH Manager.
Serves as backup House Supervisor as needed, assuming responsibility for hospital-wide operations, bed placement and throughput, staffing coordination, escalation of clinical and operational issues, and communication with on‑call leadership during assigned shifts.

Education And Credentials

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Business, Health Related Field or an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and agrees to enroll in a Bachelor’s Degree program in any of the above areas within one year of hire required. Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Services Administration or Business Administration and/or a Master in Public Health, however, individuals with experience in leading a clinical quality improvement program may be considered preferred. RN from an accredited nursing program required. BLS, preferred immediately upon hire but required within 6 months of hire required. Certification in Infection Control (CIC®) must be obtained within Six months of becoming eligible per CBIC criteria required. Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC®) as issued by the Certification Preferred: Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC). Associate – Infection Prevention and Control (a-IPC™) certification considered for candidates actively working toward CIC® eligibility preferred. Occupational health-related certification (e.g., COHN or COHN-S) preferred.

Experience

At least five years of diversified medical/surgical nursing experience. Familiar with Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), OSHA Accrediting Agency, APIC, NYSDOH, Americans with Disabilities Act, (ADA) regulations and mandates. Must possess computer skills. Must have good organizational skills required. Experience with NHSN reporting, immunization documentation, and NYS DOH regulatory reporting. Experience with DNV/ISO standards, CMS CoP compliance, and regulatory survey participation, or occupational health nursing preferred.
