Full Job Description

THE POSITION

As a Clerical Assistant 2 with the Department of Human Services' Lackawanna County Assistance Office, you will play a key part in keeping office operations running smoothly. This job gives you opportunities to learn, build confidence, and support programs that serve families across the state. You will work in a setting that encourages growth and dependability. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports daily office operations that ensure important case information is handled correctly and on time.

As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

Data Entry: Input case information accurately into automated systems
Application Processing: Receive, register, and route applications following established procedures
Inquiry Review: Interpret documents and complete clearance transactions with accuracy
Phone Support: Receive calls, relay messages, and provide information as directed
Reception Tasks: Greet visitors, manage schedules, and direct individuals appropriately
Mail Handling: Sort, scan, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and related materials

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday with a 1-hour lunch.
DHS provides excellent benefits, contractual pay increases, paid holidays and leave entitlements, opportunity for advancement and shift selection in addition to a great work environment.
Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Scranton, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting salary of $36,831 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Graduation from high school; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna County. If no eligible candidates who live within Lackawanna County apply for this position candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
