Full Job Description

Medical Billing Coordinator

Summary:

The Medical Billing Coordinator is responsible for Commercial Medical, Medicaid, Medicare, entities through the electronic system(s) for home infusion therapy claims, and specialty pharmacy claims. Additional responsibilities include preparing paperwork and documentation required for and participating in billing and collections.

Education/Experience:

If you do not have medical billing experience do not apply.

High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum one-year experience in home infusion and specialty pharmacy medical claims. Experience with insurance verification, healthcare benefit assessment, paperwork and documentation for billing Medicare/Medicaid and commercial insurances preferred. Previously experience and/or knowledge of home care equipment, supplies and coding preferred. Those without billing experience need not apply. In person work required.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Monitors ready to bill file for claims that need to be processed
Ensures all new paperwork required is returned before billing
Ensures that all tickets that are ready are billed within 3 business days
Participates as necessary in care conferences and meetings related to patients
Ensures accuracy of units, billed charges and expected charges either based on contracts or when billing out of network.
Makes sure that claims that require authorization are authorized before submission
Receives and responds to patient/client questions or complaints regarding services/care rendered and billing.
Works with collection team to resolve claims issues
Reviews claims in Change Healthcare making sure that they are transmitted and accepted as a clean claim.
Alerts appropriate management team members regarding late or missing documents required for billing
Performs other specific projects related to billing data entry and computer operations as required.
Develop review and suggest changes to reimbursement policies and procedures a needed
Monitors aged accounts receivables and resubmit bills to overdue accounts submits seriously overdue accounts to collection and prepares bad debt reports for finance manager

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of basic math while analyzing data and generating reports.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft products.
