Job Title: Cut Shop Lead – Metal Stairs & Structural Steel Fabrication

About Us:

Our company is a leader in the fabrication of custom metal stairs, railings, and structural steel components for commercial and industrial construction projects. Our success is built on precision, safety, and a skilled team dedicated to delivering top-quality work. We are seeking a motivated Cut Shop Lead to help manage and optimize our material preparation department.

Position Summary:

The Cut Shop Lead oversees daily operations in the cut shop, ensuring all raw materials are accurately and efficiently processed for fabrication. This leadership role requires hands-on knowledge of metal forming equipment, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and team development.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and lead all activities in the cut shop to meet production goals.
Operate and oversee the proper use of cutting and material prep equipment, including:
Bandsaws
Shears
Press Brakes
Ironworkers
Forklifts
Read and interpret shop drawings, cut lists, and blueprints to ensure materials are prepared accurately and to spec.
Prioritize and assign tasks to cut shop employees to maintain production flow.
Train new employees on safety procedures, proper equipment use, and company standards.
Monitor all operators to ensure correct and safe operation of machinery at all times.
Enforce shop safety rules and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Conduct regular equipment inspections and ensure preventative maintenance is performed.
Work closely with the fabrication and welding leads to coordinate material needs.
Maintain clean and organized work areas and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
Monitor inventory of raw materials and consumables; communicate restocking needs to purchasing.

Leadership Responsibilities:

Act as the primary point of contact for all cut shop employees.
Provide mentorship and hands-on training to develop team skills and efficiency.
Identify skill gaps and provide ongoing coaching to improve team performance.
Ensure all team members follow standard operating procedures and production standards.
Uphold high expectations for quality, safety, and productivity.

Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in steel or metal fabrication, with a strong background in cutting operations.
1+ years of supervisory or lead experience (preferred).
Proficient in operating and training others on:
Bandsaws, shears, press brakes, ironworkers, and forklifts.
Ability to read and interpret structural and stair fabrication drawings.
Strong understanding of material types, dimensions, and tolerances.
Forklift certification preferred (or willing to obtain).
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Working Conditions:

Full-time, on-site role in a shop environment.
Physical role requiring lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and operating equipment.
PPE must be worn at all times.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
