Full Job Description

Southeastern Transformer Company (STC) is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our team in Dunn, North Carolina. We specialize in the repair, rebuilding, and servicing of electrical distribution equipment and are looking for someone who can help keep our operations running efficiently by ensuring materials, parts, supplies, and services are purchased accurately and on time.

Position Summary

The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for coordinating purchasing activities, communicating with vendors, placing and tracking orders, and helping ensure the company has the materials and supplies needed for daily operations. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, good communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.

Physical & Environmental Requirements: This position requires frequent lifting, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking. The employee will work in an industrial plant environment that may be dirty, dusty, oily, and noisy. The ability to safely perform physical tasks and work comfortably in these conditions is required.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Minor or isolated driving violations may be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Purchase parts, materials, supplies, and services needed for company operations. Create and process purchase orders accurately and in a timely manner. Request quotes and compare pricing, availability, lead times, and vendor terms. Communicate with vendors regarding orders, pricing, backorders, shortages, and delivery dates. Track open purchase orders and follow up on outstanding or delayed items. Work closely with management, production, maintenance, and office personnel to determine purchasing needs. Help identify reliable vendors and maintain positive vendor relationships. Review purchasing documentation for accuracy. Assist with resolving discrepancies involving pricing, quantities, shipments, or invoices. Coordinate with Accounts Payable when necessary to resolve purchase order and invoice discrepancies. Maintain organized purchasing records and vendor information. Monitor inventory and supply needs to help prevent shortages and unnecessary delays. Look for opportunities to improve pricing, purchasing efficiency, and vendor performance. Perform other purchasing and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Previous purchasing, procurement, inventory, or related office experience preferred. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable communicating and negotiating with vendors. Ability to prioritize multiple orders and requests. Proficient with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and general business software. Experience with accounting, inventory, or purchasing software is a plus. Ability to work independently while also working effectively with other departments. Manufacturing, industrial, electrical, or similar purchasing experience is a plus but not required.
