Managing Attorney - Workers' Compensation
Remote in North Carolina

Jones Networking is recruiting an experienced Managing Attorney to lead the Workers’ Compensation practice of a highly regarded plaintiff-side law firm in North Carolina. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished Workers’ Compensation attorney ready to take on a leadership role overseeing the practice, mentoring attorneys and support staff, driving case strategy, and shaping the continued growth of a respected workers’ compensation team.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive North Carolina Workers’ Compensation experience, strong litigation and client advocacy skills, and a proven ability to lead and develop a team. Responsibilities of the Managing Attorney - Workers' Compensation:
- Lead and oversee the firm’s Workers’ Compensation practice, including case strategy, workflow, quality control, and overall practice performance.
- Provide strategic legal guidance and representation to injured workers throughout all phases of North Carolina Workers’ Compensation claims.
- Manage and oversee a sophisticated caseload involving complex and high-value claims, including litigation, mediation, settlement negotiations, and appeals.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Workers’ Compensation attorneys, case managers, paralegals, and other support staff.
- Establish best practices, procedures, and standards to promote efficiency, consistency, and high-quality client service.
- Litigate contested Workers’ Compensation matters before the NC Industrial Commission at the Deputy Commissioner and Full Commission levels, as well as before the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
- Take a lead role in hearings, depositions, witness preparation, oral arguments, and evidentiary presentations.
- Draft and argue motions, legal briefs, discovery requests and responses, appellate filings, and proposed orders.
- Negotiate favorable settlements on behalf of plaintiff-employees, including settlement structure, resignation language, Medicare considerations, and release terms.
- Monitor case outcomes and identify opportunities to improve litigation strategy and overall practice performance.
- Collaborate with firm leadership on practice growth, staffing, training, and operational initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with clients, medical providers, experts, and referral sources.
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and client-focused culture throughout the Workers’ Compensation team.

Requirements of the Managing Attorney - Workers' Compensation:
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admission in good standing to the North Carolina State Bar.
- 8+ years of experience handling North Carolina Workers’ Compensation matters in a plaintiff or insurance defense environment.
- Significant plaintiff-side Workers’ Compensation experience strongly preferred.
- Prior experience supervising, mentoring, or managing attorneys and/or legal support professionals.
- Proven ability to independently manage complex, high-value Workers’ Compensation claims.
- Extensive knowledge of the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act and NC Industrial Commission procedures.
- Strong litigation, negotiation, courtroom advocacy, and legal writing skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust with clients and team members.
- Extensive knowledge of medical treatment issues, vocational considerations, disability ratings, and settlement considerations.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities while overseeing a growing practice.
- Collaborative, strategic leader who can motivate and develop a high-performing team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn legal case management software.
