About Duke University Hospital

The largest of the four Duke Healthhospitals with 1062 patient beds, it features comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center, an endo-surgery center, and more.

Work Schedule

PRN; 1 x 12 hour Rotating shift as needed; Day shift (7am - 7:30pm) and Night shift (7pm - 7:30am).

General Description of the Job Class

Assist with the operation of electrocardiograph equipment to record the electromotive variations in heart muscle actions; assist in the coding, filing and distribution of EKG data.
Perform as a member of the cardiac arrest team, obtaining ECG record of events; assist emergency situations by initiating and/or assisting in emergency procedures prescribed by hospital policies.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Assist with the operation of electrocardiograph equipment to record the electromotive variations in heart muscle actions.
Prepare patient for electrocardiogram by explaining testing procedures and fastening electrodes to specific areas of arms, legs, and chest.
Assist in entering patient information into electrocardiograph including history number and patient's name.
Remove electrodes, add billing charge to requisition slip; assist with review of electrocardiogram for technical acceptability and rate.
Assist in mounting electrocardiograms for interpretation by physician; assist in coding and distributing EKG data; record and file information relating to tests performed.
Assist with cleaning, adjusting and performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

High School Graduate or GED.
