The dream job exists for someone who loves organization, animals, and making magic happen behind the scenes! I'm seeking an exceptional human who can bring order to my beautiful chaos while helping maintain my slice of sanctuary in Chapel Hill. As a single woman running both a business and a non-profit farm sanctuary (with a rental property sprinkled in for good measure), I need someone who can keep calm in the midst of a whirlwind of activity. My ideal match would be equally comfortable organizing my calendar, accompanying my senior parents to appointments, pitching in when our housekeeper is out sick, and occasionally hanging out with the resident pot-bellied pigs. If you're the rare unicorn who thrives on variety and doesn't mind the occasional dirty work (hello, pooper scooper!), we might be perfect for each other!
The schedule works for those who appreciate consistency with a dash of flexibility. This position offers 40 guaranteed hours per week, typically within an 8-hour window between 7a-6p M-F (or if you’d prefer to drop a weekday and add a weekend day, we can absolutely do that too!). While I'd love consistent start/end times, there's room to find what works best for both of us. What matters most is having someone who brings reliability to my somewhat unpredictable world – someone I can count on to keep things running smoothly, whether buried in meetings or entertaining impromptu houseguests.
Allow me to introduce myself – I'm living my second act with gusto! After retiring early from a successful tech career, I launched into new adventures with a social profit business and farm sanctuary. On paper, I should be living the dream, but the reality involves juggling multiple boards, rental properties, and a revolving door of family members and friends who visit (some for extended stays). I live with muscular dystrophy, which makes having an organized, clean environment increasingly crucial to my well-being. Despite living "alone," my home is always buzzing with energy from visiting adult children, my beloved mother and father, friends, and of course, the menagerie of animals that share my space.
The animal kingdom here is diverse and delightful! Inside the house, you'll find three dogs with distinct personalities and a box turtle who moves at his own pace. Step outside, and you'll discover our farm sanctuary family – donkeys, pot-bellied pigs, and horses who have their own dedicated caretaker but would love your attention, too. The dogs particularly enjoy off-territory walks to fields where they can run and play, and someone needs to tackle the daily pooper scooper duties to keep our paradise pristine.
Your days will blend high-level organization with practical caregiving for both home and land. Throughout the day, you'll manage everything from scheduling contractors to answering emails, coordinating appointments, and keeping the house immaculate. There’s a rental house (a tiny 2-bedroom cottage that serves as an AirBNB) on my property that needs regular resets (turning sheets, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms). The property's flower beds need tending (you don’t need to be a pro gardener; I’ll show you the ropes here), and there's always something that needs organizing, from the pantry to the seasonal decorations. Running errands and grocery shopping will be part of this role too, and I may need you to come with me for an errand or two. For the right person, there's also the opportunity to learn about farm animal care from our barn manager – a bonus for animal lovers!
The ideal candidate brings a unique blend of practical skills and personality traits. You absolutely love creating and maintaining organized spaces and understand that no job is too big or too small. You're the type who finds satisfaction in transforming a cluttered space into an immaculate one. You're present in the moment, observant enough to notice things that need attention without being told, and self-directed enough to manage your own schedule. You're comfortable maintaining professional boundaries (including not getting trapped in long conversations when it's time to go home), and you truly believe that all tasks have dignity – whether coordinating with board members or helping muck the horse stalls. You have a green thumb (or are willing to learn) and can juggle multiple priorities without dropping the ball. Most importantly, you value quality over rushing and understand that proper organization saves time in the long run.
Health considerations and property details to note. Due to my gluten allergy, the kitchen needs extra attention to prevent cross-contamination. The property includes a main house, a 2-bedroom cottage rental, and a barn with an office that occasionally needs attention. As my muscular dystrophy progresses, having an able-bodied assistant who can handle physical tasks like checking propane tanks and maintaining outdoor spaces becomes increasingly essential.
I'm offering $30-$35/hr and PTO for the right person to bring high-level assistance and household management to this unique role. Beyond the compensation, you'll find yourself part of a warm (albeit chaotic) community where housekeepers typically become family within 35 minutes. This position is perfect for someone who appreciates variety, loves animals, and finds satisfaction in creating order from chaos while supporting someone else's dreams.
