About the Role

Firebird Sign Company is seeking a skilled Metal Fabricator to join our production team in Raleigh, NC. This role is responsible for fabricating a wide range of architectural signage components, spanning both interior and exterior applications including directional signs, wayfinding systems, channel letters, post & panel signs, electrical signs, and more.

Fabrication work at Firebird is primarily aluminum-based and requires a well-rounded fabricator who can take a work order from raw material to finished component, using the right combination of forming, welding, assembly, and finishing techniques to get there. This is a hands-on production role where attention to detail, craftsmanship, and the ability to work efficiently against a daily production schedule are essential.

Responsibilities

Fabricate interior and exterior architectural signage components to specification using work orders, drawings, and layout references
Operate metal fabricating equipment including shears, chop saws, table saws, drill presses, routers, punch presses, and other forming equipment
Join and assemble components using the appropriate method for the application, MIG welding aluminum and other metals, riveting, bolting, or using mechanical fasteners as the job requires
Interpret manufacturing documents and drawings to select materials, establish layout reference points, and sequence fabrication operations
Inspect fabricated parts and assemblies for defects, dimensional accuracy, and finish quality before releasing to the next production stage
Review daily schedule to determine job priorities and sequence work accordingly
Prep completed parts for downstream production steps or move to appropriate areas as needed
Follow all safety guidelines and PPE requirements while operating equipment
Support other production needs and projects as assigned by leadership

Required Education / Experience

3+ years of experience in a metal fabrication role; experience in sign manufacturing is strongly preferred. Candidates from carpentry, custom cabinetry, or other highly skilled trades will also be considered
Strong MIG welding skills with demonstrated ability to weld aluminum efficiently and cleanly, and the judgment to know when welding is the right call versus mechanical assembly; TIG welding experience is a plus
Proficiency with metal fabricating equipment including shears, chop saws, table saws, drill presses, routers, and punch presses
Ability to read blueprints, interpret sheet metal layouts and welding symbols, and translate manufacturing drawings into finished components
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or additional technical coursework is preferred

Solid math skills, fractions, ratios, proportions, and measurements, applied in a fabrication context
Ability to work independently, manage priorities against a daily production schedule, and maintain consistent output
Mechanical aptitude and comfort operating a range of shop equipment safely and efficiently
Professional demeanor, strong work ethic, and reliable attendance
Team-oriented with a proactive approach to communication and problem-solving

Work Environment

This position is based in Firebird’s manufacturing facility in Raleigh, NC. Team members in this role are regularly required to:

Stand for extended periods and use hands to operate equipment, tools, and controls throughout the workday
Occasionally stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders
Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on occasion
Maintain close visual attention to dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and finish standards
Read, interpret, and follow written work orders and manufacturing documents in English
