Physical Therapist — Scoliosis & Spine Specialty (Schroth SSE Preferred)

Hey Clinic for Scoliosis & Spine Care is a specialty practice in Raleigh, NC, founded and led by Dr. Lloyd Hey, MD, MS. For more than 20 years we have pioneered a conservative-first approach to scoliosis and spinal deformity — using scoliosis-specific exercise and advanced bracing to help patients avoid surgery whenever possible, and delivering exceptional surgical care when it's truly needed.

Our recently published research (presented at SOSORT 2026 in Turin) followed more than 1,800 adolescents and documented surgery rates falling from 24.7% to 6.5% — roughly a 73% relative reduction — under this paradigm. Conservative care isn't a side offering here — it's central to who we are, and the physical therapist is central to making it work.

The Role

We're hiring a Physical Therapist to lead scoliosis-specific exercise (SSE) treatment for children, adolescents, and adults across the full spectrum of spinal deformity — from early observation through bracing, and pre/post-operative rehabilitation.

Schroth SSE certification is strongly preferred. However, we will also enthusiastically consider a motivated DPT who is eager to learn — we are prepared to invest in Schroth certification for the right candidate who shares our philosophy and heart for patients.

What You'll Do

Evaluate and treat scoliosis and spinal deformity patients using Schroth or other scoliosis-specific exercise methods
Design and progress individualized home exercise programs and coach patients (and families) toward independence and long-term adherence
Collaborate closely with Dr. Hey, our orthotist, and PA on bracing (Rigo-Chêneau / Boston) and integrated conservative care plans
Track and document outcomes (radiographic and functional) to support our evidence-based, measure-what-matters approach
Provide pre-operative conditioning and post-operative rehabilitation for surgical patients
Educate patients on posture, body mechanics, and self-management with warmth and clarity
Contribute to a positive, professional team culture and to our ongoing patient-education and research efforts

What We're Looking For

Required

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or equivalent
Current North Carolina PT license (or eligibility to obtain before start)
Strong communication skills and a genuine heart for patient-centered care
Willingness to learn and become certified in Schroth SSE (if not already certified)

Preferred

Schroth SSE certification (Barcelona/BSPTS, Schroth Best Practice, or equivalent)
Experience treating scoliosis, spinal deformity, or pediatric/adolescent orthopedic populations
Familiarity with bracing protocols and outcome measurement

Compensation
