About Best Life
Best Life operates two products — the Best Life consumer app and Open Life Cloud — under Best Life Inc, with the data agency governed by the Live Learn Innovate Foundation (LLIF).
We are building a programmable platform that empowers individuals and organizations to create highly personalized health and lifestyle experiences. The system collects, organizes, and analyzes data across many domains — nutrition, fitness, health, wellbeing, lifestyle, environment, labs, conditions, genetics, and more — to create personalized, actionable programs.
The core technical foundation is already mature and optimized: a template engine that automates ~95% of data capture, a powerful planning and program system (with scoring, compliance, streaks, and gamification), and an advanced analytics layer that delivers time series trends, calendar patterns, histograms, correlations, and predictions. We are now focused on designing the intuitive experience layer that makes this powerful, multi-domain engine feel simple, coherent, and delightful.
About the Role
We’re seeking a Product Designer who excels at turning complex, multi-domain data into simple, repeatable, and elegant user experiences.
You will work on a mature platform with already-optimized templates, planning systems, and analytics. This gives your work high leverage — your designs can ship quickly and have immediate impact. The role is especially well suited to designers who enjoy creating unified patterns and reusable components that work elegantly across many different data domains.
This role rewards strong systems thinking and the ability to distill complexity into clean, coherent experiences that feel consistent no matter which combination of health, lifestyle, or wellbeing data a user engages with.
Key Responsibilities
Design the Unified Structured Experience
- Extend and evolve our existing design system to create consistent, low-friction input patterns and repeatable flows powered by templates, planning, and personalized programs.
- Design elegant interaction models that allow users to work across many data domains (genetics, conditions, labs, environment, nutrition, exercise, symptoms, lifestyle, etc.) without fragmentation.
- Create input experiences, program creation and management flows, and visualization patterns (time series, frequency distributions, correlations, predictions) that feel lightweight and coherent.
- Build modular, reusable component libraries in Figma that scale from consumer use cases to future researcher and clinical tools.
Design AI-Augmented Interfaces and Experiences
- Design natural, transparent AI-assisted flows for data categorization, enrichment, nutrition lookup, suggestions, and analysis.
- Create AI-enhanced analytics and insight surfaces that turn complex cross-domain data into clear, actionable understanding.
- Design in-app AI chat, planning, and guidance experiences, including integration with OpenClaw skill and MCP-based chat/tool-use interfaces.
- Define clear principles for when to use structured flows versus AI-driven or conversational approaches so the two modes work seamlessly together.
Collaboration & Iteration
- Partner closely with engineering and technical leadership to ground designs in the actual capabilities of the platform.
- Iterate rapidly using qualitative user feedback and quantitative analytics to drive engagement and behavior change.
Requirements
Must-Haves
- 3–7 years of product design experience, ideally for consumer or data-rich applications.
- Strong portfolio showcasing clean, reusable design systems and elegant, repeatable interaction patterns across multiple domains or features.
- Proficiency in Figma and experience building or extending scalable component libraries.
- Systems thinking — proven ability to distill complex requirements into simple, consistent user flows and components.
- Empathy for users tracking health, lifestyle, and emotional well-being data.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience designing data visualizations or analytics experiences.
- Familiarity with React Native, React, or AI-assisted design tools.
- Background in digital health, quantified self, behavior change, or complex personal data domains.
- Experience designing both consumer-facing and professional/B2B or research interfaces.
- Strong fluency with modern AI tools and comfort using them to accelerate design work.
- Experience designing conversational interfaces or human-AI collaboration patterns.
Why Join Best Life
- Work on a platform with a mature, battle-tested technical foundation — your designs will ship quickly and have immediate impact.
- Shape both the Best Life consumer app and Open Life Cloud as we expand into B2B dashboards, program builders, and research tools.
- Unlimited PTO, meaningful equity participation, and competitive benefits.
- One day per week in-person collaboration in Raleigh, NC with flexible remote work the rest of the time.
- Join a mission-driven team at the intersection of health data, AI, and ethical data ownership.
Hiring Process
We keep the process respectful of your time and aim to be transparent:
1. Intro conversation with the founder to explore mutual fit and answer your questions.
2. Portfolio review + design discussion with the founder and 1–2 team members.
3. Take-home design exercise focused on extending existing patterns across multiple data domains (including AI elements).
4. Final conversation to review the exercise, discuss how we would work together, and cover any remaining questions.

Application Question(s):
- Describe a project where you designed user experiences across multiple different data domains or user types that were powered by a shared underlying model or system (for example: templates, rules engine, data model, or component system). What was the model, and how did you create consistency while still respecting the differences between domains?
- Tell us about a time you worked on a product that already had established design patterns, components, or technical systems. How did you approach extending or evolving those existing patterns versus introducing new ones? What tradeoffs did you consider?
- What AI design tools do you actively use in your day-to-day work? Give 1–2 specific examples of how you’ve used them to explore ideas, iterate faster, or improve your designs on a real project.
