Communications & Content Creation
(Part-Time)
Position Summary
This internship supports the Senator's social media presence and constituent-facing storytelling, helping translate legislative work, policy updates, and district highlights into engaging content. Working closely with the Legislative Assistant, Strategy Manager, and Chief of Staff, the intern will help plan, design, and produce social media posts, graphics, and short-form video content. This role provides hands-on experience in political communications and creative content production, while developing professional skills in a fast-paced government office.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media & Content Production
- Develop social media posts covering policy updates, legislative activity, and district highlights.
- Create short-form videos and reels for the office's social media platforms.
- Design graphics and visual content using Canva or similar creative platforms.
- Help maintain a consistent posting schedule and content calendar across platforms.
Communications Support
- Assist with drafting captions, talking points, and messaging for social media content.
- Track engagement and help identify what content resonates with constituents.
- Support coverage of community events and district visits for social media storytelling.
General Office Support
- Respond to constituent inquiries related to office communications and events.
- Support general office operations and administrative needs as capacity allows.
Qualifications & Skills
Candidates should have experience with most of the following (prior coursework, personal projects, or student organization experience all count):
- Experience creating content in Canva or similar creative/design platforms.
- Comfort filming, editing, and posting short-form video (e.g., Reels, TikTok, Shorts).
- An eye for visual storytelling and consistent, on-brand design.
- Interest in following and communicating about policy or legislative issues.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management abilities.
- Excellent written communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment.
Compensation, Location & Time Commitment
- Compensation: $15–$20 per hour, based on experience
- Location: Flexibility inside District 53 with time spent in Springfield
- Hours: 15–20 hours per week
- Benefits: Internship positions do not include benefits
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
