On Call Responsibilities

Position Overview

Reporting to the Sexual Assault Project Director, the Regional Sexual Assault Response Specialist builds a strong, evidence-based advocacy practice that assists, supports, and advocates for survivors of sexual assault and promotes trust and communication between survivors and the judicial, law enforcement, and medical systems, weaves together a supportive network of formal and informal community-based resources for survivors, facilitates a coordinated community response to sexual assault, provides outreach and education to survivors and the community at-large, and develops and supports the agency’s capacity for ongoing and expanded service.

Major Areas of Responsibility

· Sexual Assault Awareness (for participants and for the community)

· Crisis, Psycho-educational, and Health and Wellness Support Services

· Safety and Service Planning

· Court and Hospital Advocacy

· Case Management and Resource Linkage

· Pre- and Post-Service Participant Outreach and Follow-up

· Training development

· Design and implementation of program initiatives

· Facilitating coordinated community response to sexual assault.

Specific Responsibilities

Coordination of Services:

· Assesses level and history of violence experienced and aids in the development of a safety plan for survivors.

· Assesses survivors’ immediate needs and develops service goals and a plan that assists survivors in obtaining and/or referring them to those who can help them obtain appropriate legal, shelter, employment, transportation, financial assistance, counseling, medical and/or mental health services, and other services in keeping with assessed needs and established goals.

· Provides support and advocacy to survivors involved in court proceedings.

· Provides assistance and referrals to legal aid agencies and/or agencies specializing in immigration, child abuse, elder abuse, and/or disabilities.

· Assists survivors with Orders of Protection and prepares survivors for court appearances and accompanies them to court hearings.

· Coordinates survivor support services provided through law enforcement, prosecution, and the courts.

· Provides up-to-date health and wellness support and information.

· Provides post-service survivor outreach services to assess and assure ongoing safety and well-being.

· Conducts pre-service survivor outreach at court, in hospitals, DHS and DCS offices, clinics, community mental health agencies, family resource centers, school guidance counselor offices, college and university student affairs offices, local businesses, local churches, local civic organizations, community councils, health fairs, special events, etc.

· Initiates and participates in local efforts to improve the community’s response to sexual assault.

· Facilitates support groups.

· Documents all survivor and community services rendered in appropriate database(s) timely, accurately, and completely.

· Serves on the sexual assault response on-call rotation as assigned.

· Provides consultation and assistance to County Managers and Regional DV Specialists assisting sexual assault survivors.

· Utilizes and shares with County Managers and Regional DV Specialists evidence-based practices and innovative approaches to working with survivors of sexual violence.

· Provides culturally relevant services to all survivors of sexual assault, including women, children, men, LGBTQ, and survivors of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds.

· Partners with peers within and outside of the agency to ensure warm hand-offs, seamless transitions, and continuity of trauma-informed service to survivors.

· Participates in and contributes to staff meetings, staff committees, and special events for staff.

· Tracks and monitors service performance at least weekly and provides written and/or oral reports, as requested, on performance strengths and needs in weekly program meetings and/or during regularly scheduled supervision.

· Communicates with staff, survivors, partners and stakeholders, and the general public in a manner that reflects respect for self and others.

Enhancement of Coordinated Community Response to Sexual Assault:

· Participates in agency-wide awareness and/or initiates awareness and outreach events in assigned service counties.

· Participates in agency-wide events, trainings, and educational seminars.

· Participates in and contributes to staff meetings.

· Participates/Coordinates SART in assigned service areas.

· Participates in various coalition meetings within the service area.

· Assists Sexual Assault Project Director in the development and delivery of trainings and educational seminars throughout WRAP’s service region.

· Cultivates relationships with community partners and allied professions with the goal of facilitating a coordinated community response to sexual assault.

· Lends creativity and skill to enhance agency outreach.

· Participates in local efforts to improve the community’s response to sexual assault.
