Full Job Description

Director of Financial Solutions

As the Director of Financial Solutions, you will lead a dedicated team committed to helping individuals and families overcome financial stress and achieve lasting financial stability through counseling, debt management, and financial education services. This leadership role provides the opportunity to drive program excellence, expand community impact, and ensure compassionate, high-quality support for clients seeking a path to financial freedom. Join FamilyMeans and help shape strategic initiatives that empower thousands of people to build stronger financial futures and healthier lives. This position serves as a senior leader responsible for the strategic direction, financial oversight, and operational management of the Financial Solutions Debt Management program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Organizational Leadership

Serve as an active member of the senior leadership team, contributing to agency-wide vision, strategy, and decision-making.
Support and advance the organization’s mission through collaboration across programs and departments.

Program Leadership & Impact

Provide strategic direction and oversight for the Financial Solutions program.
Develop and implement a comprehensive program plan with measurable goals and clear outcomes.
Monitor program performance, evaluate impact, and ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.

Regulatory Compliance and Administrative Operations

Lead development and oversight of the program’s annual budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources.
Oversees preparation and submission of creditor compliance documentation.
Completes annual reports and ensures timely submission to governing bodies.
Compiles departmental reports, performance metrics, and operational statistics.
Execute monthly client trust account reconciliation and validate financial records for accuracy.
Maintains organized documentation systems to support audits and compliance checks.
Ensures adherence to internal policies and external regulatory expectations.
Identify and cultivate funding opportunities, including grants and creditor partnerships.
Ensure compliance with all state licensures, regulatory, and contractual requirements.

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing, mission-driven team.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Provide clear expectations, regular feedback, and ongoing development opportunities.

Innovation & Community Responsiveness

Promote innovation in program design and delivery to better serve clients, communities, and partners.
Encourage staff-driven ideas and pilot initiatives that advance service effectiveness.
Evaluate new approaches and scale successful strategies.

Department Oversight (Operations & Counseling)

Provide direct supervision of the Operations & Counseling Managers.
Understand the Operations’ Workflows and have ability to support the Operations Manager and their team functions.
Provide direct client service if necessary to support program continuity.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Community & Professional Representation

Represent Financial Solutions and the agency within the community and professional networks.
Deliver presentations and participate in resource fairs, community meetings, and collaborative initiatives.
Serve on task forces and engage in partnerships that advance the agency’s mission.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with nationwide credit counseling agencies and the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive quality assurance program for Financial Solutions that aligns with the standards of the Council on Accreditation and NFCC.
Design and oversee policies and procedures related to quality management, including data collection & performance metrics.
Evaluate service effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
Analyze data and prepare reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
Provide staff training in continuous process improvement and quality management practices.

Qualifications:

Required:

A bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field.

Experience:

This position requires a minimum of five years’ previous experience in a leadership or management capacity and 5+ years experience in finance, debt managmeent and/or data analysis is highly preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and responsively with both internal and external audiences.
Strong writing and documentation skills, including the ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and other organizational communications.
Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-demand environment while managing multiple priorities.
Sound judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to set priorities, stay organized, and consistently meet deadlines.
Ability to remain composed, professional, and effective under pressure.

Physical and Mental Demands Statement: The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Must be able to freely move around the facility. This position requires the incumbent to travel periodically. The incumbent must be able to hear, to speak and to see. Speaking and listening take up a significant amount of time each day, including the use of the telephone & email. Requires frequent use of hands to grip or touch objects or controls.

Mental demands of this position include comprehension, reasoning and decision-making. Must be adaptable and respond effectively to changes in situation or information and be able to work with frequent interruptions.

Working Environment Statement: General office environment. The noise level is usually quiet with increased levels during busy periods.

General Details: The position reports to the President and CEO and currently manages a team of 6 individuals.

Location: Stillwater, MN office (the position allows one day per week to be remote after being fully trained on the position)

Pay: This is an exempt role paying between $77,610 - $97,012 per year. This will be determind based on your years of applicable experience.
