DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL RELATIONS

PROP (People Reaching Out to Other People) is seeking an experienced Director of External Relations to join an innovative and passionate nonprofit team, managing all aspects of fundraising and communications for the organization.

At PROP, we believe that no neighbor should face hunger or financial hardship alone. Every day, we work alongside our community to provide food, financial assistance, and hope to individuals and families navigating challenging circumstances.

We are seeking a dynamic, relationship-driven Director of External Relations to elevate our visibility, strengthen community partnerships, expand philanthropic support, and serve as a passionate ambassador for our mission. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic leader who thrives on building meaningful connections and inspiring others to invest in lasting community impact.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of External Relations is responsible for shaping and leading the organization's external engagement strategy, including donor engagement and solicitation, and working closely with the team on communications, public relations, community partnerships, and brand stewardship.

As a member of the leadership team, this individual will help tell the story of our mission, strengthen relationships with current and prospective supporters, and position the organization as a trusted community resource and leader in addressing food insecurity and financial instability.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator, strategic thinker, and relationship builder who can translate impact into compelling stories that move people to action.

In addition to leading fundraising efforts the Director of External Relations leads the development and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy to advance the mission of PROP. This role is responsible for increasing community awareness, strengthening donor engagement, elevating the organization’s brand, and sharing compelling stories that inspire support for our mission. In conjunction with the communications team, establish annual plans, objectives and performance metrics and manage the organization’s brand identity, voice, and reputation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

· Lead fundraising strategy and manage all development efforts, including but not limited to grant writing and reporting, event management, identification, cultivation and solicitation of current and future contributors for both financial and in-kind support.

· Demonstrated marketing, social media, and community engagement expertise.

· Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy as a member of the leadership team.

· Oversee tracking and maintenance of donor information using our database (Bloomerang).

· Develop external communication pieces to ensure a cohesive marketing and communications plan, which includes fundraising strategies.

· Make regular presentations to businesses, organizations, civic groups and others in the community to enhance PROP’s brand in the community.

· Provide tours, information sessions and related activities to community groups.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

· Minimum of 5 years of experience fundraising within a nonprofit.

· Drive philanthropic engagement to achieve increased fundraising for the organization’s mission, including management of all aspects of grant writing, research, and reporting.

· Success cultivating major gifts and experience in raising a minimum of $2 million annually.

· Demonstrated experience in public speaking, networking, and event management.

· Exceptional communications skills, both verbal and written.

· Ability to articulate thoughts and express ideas effectively to multiple audiences, as well as to listen for meaning and understanding.

· Possess the drive, flexibility, and desire to solve problems in a rapidly changing environment.

· Ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple tasks/projects concurrently.

· Capacity to manage colleagues in ways that build strong, productive, collaborative working relationships.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· CFRE and/or graduate degree in nonprofit management, philanthropy, or communications.

· Familiarity with the Eden Prairie and Chanhassen communities.

· 10+ years of nonprofit fundraising and communications experience.

· Experience in hunger relief, human services, community development, or related nonprofit sectors.
