Full Job Description

HireArt is helping May Mobility hire Autonomous Vehicle Operators.

Autonomous Vehicle Operators (AVOs) are safety-critical, frontline operators responsible for monitoring and supporting the performance of autonomous vehicles during live passenger service and testing operations.

This role is not traditional driving. It is a blend of real-time oversight, safety intervention readiness, detailed event reporting, and rider-facing professionalism.

AVOs are expected to maintain constant situational awareness, respond calmly under ambiguity, and provide clear technical feedback that supports engineering and operational improvement.

This is a contracted role with required completion of online training and an in-vehicle certification program prior to full deployment.

Training Requirements

4-5 hour self-paced online course (completed within one week)
Five consecutive weekdays of onsite training (Monday-Friday)
Training sessions are generally offered 8:00 AM-12:00 PM or 1:00 PM-5:00 PM
Completion of all training is required before beginning regular shifts

Key Responsibilities:

Actively monitor autonomous vehicle behavior in real time to ensure safe operations in dynamic environments.
Maintain readiness to disengage autonomy and assume manual control when conditions require.
Demonstrate conservative, safety-first judgement during all vehicle operations.
Identify unexpected AV behaviors and log events accurately and concisely to support engineering review and system improvement.
Serve as a company representative for passengers and partners.
Answer rider questions confidently and professionally.
Ensure a safe and efficient rider experience from pickup to drop-off.
Work assigned shifts that may include early mornings, late nights, or weekends.
Maintain consistent attendance and readiness for safety-critical work environments.
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license with 3+ years of driving experience and a clean driving record
Comfortable operating autonomous vehicles
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly
Comfortable assisting individuals in wheelchairs, including pushing a wheelchair up a ramp and into a vehicle
Strong safety mindset with the ability to remain vigilant and attentive during extended monitoring periods
High attention to detail and the ability to consistently follow established procedures and safety protocols
Methodical, organized, and comfortable documenting daily activities and observations accurately
Ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and concisely, particularly in dynamic or high-pressure situations
Comfortable using technical systems, mobile devices, and digital reporting tools
Coachable, adaptable, and able to learn quickly through structured training and ongoing evaluation
Must be able to successfully complete paid online training and in-vehicle certification before working independently
Must be able to pass a background check, motor vehicle record (MVR) check, and drug screen, including THC

Shifts:
Shifts are scheduled based on operational needs but are posted 2 weeks in advance. We do our best to honor preferred availability (AM only, PM only, flexible, etc.).
Shifts range from 4–8 hours

Commitment: This is a part-time, ongoing contract position staffed through HireArt and is onsite, available to candidates local to the Eden Prairie, MN area. Please note, employment is contingent upon a clear background check, MVR, and drug screen (including THC).
