Job Overview
Honda Logistics is seeking an experienced SQLRPGLE Developer to join their IBM i (AS/400) development team in East Liberty, Ohio. This position focuses on the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of mission-critical business applications using SQLRPGLE (RPGLE with embedded SQL).
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on developer with deep IBM i expertise who can maintain and modernize existing systems, build new functionality, troubleshoot complex issues, and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain IBM iSeries/AS400 applications using SQLRPGLE and RPGLE.
- Develop new SQLRPGLE programs and enhance existing applications.
- Write and optimize embedded SQL statements within RPGLE applications.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production and application issues.
- Perform code testing and ensure quality and stability of deliverables.
- Implement user-requested enhancements and ongoing maintenance activities.
- Integrate fixes and enhancements into existing production systems.
- Participate in system improvements and modernization initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
SQLRPGLE Expertise
- Strong hands-on experience developing and maintaining applications using SQLRPGLE.
- Experience with:
- Embedded SQL
- SQL cursors
- SQLCODE / SQLSTATE error handling
- Data access optimization
Advanced SQL Skills
- Expertise in:
- Complex SQL queries
- Performance tuning
- Indexing strategies
- Joins, subqueries, and CTEs
- Stored procedures
RPG Development
- Strong experience with:
- RPG IV
- RPGLE (Free-format)
- ILE concepts
- Service programs
- Modules
- Binding directories
- Modern RPG development techniques
JSON Integration
- Experience processing JSON data for APIs and system integrations using:
- JSON_TABLE
- SQL JSON functions
- RPG JSON APIs
Embedded SQL (Highly Preferred)
- Strong understanding of:
- Host variables
- Parameter markers
- Dynamic SQL
- SQL performance and security best practices
Desired Skills
- IBM iSeries / AS400 platform experience:
- DDS
- Physical and Logical files
- Data queues
- CL / CLLE experience
- Logistics or Supply Chain domain experience
- Exposure to Angular and Python
- Experience with:
- REST APIs
- Node.js on IBM i
- SQL Stored Procedures
- Modern IBM i technologies
