Community Relations and Marketing Specialist
Position Summary:
This position works under the direction of the CEO to develop, prioritize, and implement communications, messaging, and a strategic marketing plan to increase awareness of Compass's mission, values, goals, and needs. The position exercises discretion and independent judgment in recommending and carrying out marketing strategies, communications priorities, vendor coordination, budget use, and outreach efforts that support the organization’s business operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities & Functions:
- Develop and implement the annual marketing and communications strategic plan and content calendar.
- Manage and operate within the department budget.
- Develop and ensure brand standards for all marketing materials and communications.
- Responsible for maintaining, updating, and monitoring the Compass website and social media tools in line with marketing and communications goals established for the organization. Analyze the effectiveness of these tools using Google Analytics and social media metrics.
- Create marketing plans for events and other organization initiatives throughout the year. prioritizing the timing and outlets that are most appropriate for each event, including press releases, social media, website and print materials.
- Draft press releases for review and editing by the CEO. Distribute to the media and post on Compass web and social media channels.
- Maintain a list of media contacts and ensure that Compass has a positive relationship with representatives of print, digital, radio and TV media outlets.
- Assists with the development and placement of paid advertising that meets the marketing goals of the organization.
- Implement podcasts and video to expand the marketing efforts and increase awareness of Compass in the community.
- With editorial review by the CEO, compose and design the Compass monthly e-blast internal and external newsletters, as well as other email marketing campaigns for Compass & Compass Closet.
- Develop content and images for external Compass publications, including the quarterly newsletter to the community and the annual report.
- With editorial and design review from the CEO, develop and design marketing materials, including flyers, brochures, rack cards, reports, and referral partner e-blasts; coordinate projects with outside vendors hired for graphic design, freelance writing, printing, mailings and other tasks.
- Provide photography support for events and all other publicity events. Maintain photography files and photo releases that enable efficient retrieval of images by Compass staff.
- Coordinate with departments throughout the organization on their marketing needs throughout the year.
- Maintain & update Compass’ website.
- Gather and organize materials for media tracking purposes, including but not limited to clippings, releases, quotes and photos.
- Serve as a team member for community outreach events, presentations and other marketing and outreach activities.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service for both internal and external audiences.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related business field or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe InDesign, web content management software, Facebook, Constant Contact, Google Analytics & Advertising and other social media tools, preferred.
- Working knowledge of photography principles and ability to use editing software.
- Excellent skills in writing, proofreading and copy editing.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Resident of or familiarity with counties served by Compass.
- Knowledge of hospice and/or health care industry preferred.
- Support of the hospice concept of care.
- Ability to work with many different personalities, teams and community groups.
- An ability to cope with stress of continual loss.
- Willingness to participate in continuing education, in-services and workshops.
