The Outdoor Adventure Guide I supports daily guided programs and backcountry expedition programming for adults, teenagers, and private Powder Haven members. This position is responsible for daily guiding, participant and staff safety, technical instruction, equipment management, and delivering a high level of personalized service consistent with Powder Haven's luxury standards.
Guides will support a diverse portfolio of summer and winter programming, including but not limited to Wakesurfing, Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Archery, E-Foiling, Hiking, Gravel Biking, Nordic Skiing, Snowshoeing, Fat Tire Biking, Backcountry Skiing, Ski Touring, and Inbound Ski Guiding.
The Guide I is expected to facilitate the safety and well-being of client groups in challenging and hazardous terrain, sometimes with limited support, while exercising sound judgment and maintaining appropriate risk management practices

Daily Duties May Include:

Relaying pertinent safety information and operational updates to guests, guides, and the Operations Team.

Conducting participant briefings, equipment checks, and activity-specific safety orientations.

Providing first aid and emergency response for injuries and incidents.

Participating in daily operational and guide briefings.

Adhering to Standard Operating Guidelines and established risk management protocols.

Preparing, inspecting, maintaining, and accounting for adventure sports equipment.

Assessing weather, terrain, snow, water, and environmental conditions and modifying programming as necessary.

Providing technical instruction and coaching appropriate to participant ability and activity.
-
Maintain a high standard of operational safety, risk management, and member interaction.

Execute daily programming with exceptional attention to detail and elevated luxury service standards.

Lead and support summer and winter adventure programs for Powder Haven members and guests.
-
Provide winter guiding services including Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, fat tire biking, inbound ski guiding, backcountry skiing, and ski touring.

Support backcountry ski and touring programs, including route selection, terrain assessment, navigation, group management, and emergency response.

Provide technical coaching and environmental education appropriate to the activity and participant experience level.

Support daily and multi-day backcountry expedition programs.

Ensure smooth operations for daily programming and regional or international expeditions.

Travel for expedition programs both regionally and internationally as needed.

Conduct ongoing safety and risk assessments for all Outdoor Adventure programming.

Maintain, inspect, clean, and properly store Outdoor Adventure equipment.

Ensure activity-specific gear is properly prepared, fitted, and maintained for each program.

Provide flexible, dynamic, and engaging luxury adventure programming on demand for the private Powder Haven community.

Communicate effectively with members, guests, guides, and internal departments.

Support the development and implementation of program SOPs and safety procedures.

Participate in staff training, guide development, and ongoing technical skills development.

Maintain accurate records related to equipment, incidents, program operations, and participant needs.

Support other Outdoor Adventure operational responsibilities as assigned.

Professional background in Outdoor Adventure Guiding.
-
Demonstrated experience guiding across a diverse portfolio of outdoor activities.
-
Experience with both summer and winter outdoor recreation and guiding.
-
Strong technical competency in one or more winter disciplines, including Nordic skiing, backcountry skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, fat tire biking, or inbound ski guiding.

Strong understanding of winter terrain, snow conditions, weather, navigation, and cold-weather risk management.
-
Emergency management and incident response experience preferred.

AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) certification required.

PMBIA mountain biking certification or equivalent professional experience preferred.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) minimum; Wilderness EMT (WEMT) preferred.

CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

AIARE 1 & AIARE 2 certified

Backcountry ski/snowboard certified - AMGA

PSIA-ASSI certified

Ability to safely operate Powder Mountain work vehicles.

Ability to spend extended periods guiding in physically demanding outdoor environments.

Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with the broader Outdoor Adventure team.

Ability to pass background checks required for youth and teen programming.
Must be able to perform physically demanding activities, including but not limited to:

Ski touring 5,000+ vertical feet in a day.
-
Skiing and hiking with a 40+ lb. pack for a full day of operations.
-
Carrying, lifting, loading, and transporting adventure equipment and supplies.
-
Ability to move 200+ lbs. by toboggan or medical extrication device.
-
Extended periods of skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, biking, climbing, and other outdoor activities.
-
Ability to work for extended periods in cold, snow, heat, water, high alpine, and other challenging environmental conditions.

Ability to navigate and safely operate on uneven, steep, slippery, rocky, snowy, and variable terrain.
The working environment for this position ranges from indoor office and equipment environments to high alpine, backcountry, desert, water-based, and other hazardous outdoor environments.
This position will spend extended periods outdoors and in the backcountry during both summer and winter seasons. Winter operations may include prolonged exposure to cold temperatures, snow, wind, avalanche terrain, and changing mountain conditions. Summer operations may include exposure to heat, water, high alpine environments, remote terrain, and other variable conditions.
Regional and international travel may be required for multi-day Outdoor Adventure expeditions
