Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Database Developer with strong expertise in both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server to support enterprise, business-critical database environments. This role will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and reliability of production databases while supporting strategic modernization initiatives and legacy application platforms.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on DBA with balanced experience administering both Oracle and SQL Server environments. This individual will work closely with application development, infrastructure, and operations teams to maintain highly available database systems, troubleshoot complex production issues, and provide technical leadership on database best practices.
Responsibilities:
Database Administration
- Administer, configure, and maintain Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments.
- Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, migrations, and configuration management.
- Manage database provisioning, schema changes, user access, and security.
- Monitor database health, capacity, availability, and performance.
- Develop and execute backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
Performance & Optimization
- Diagnose and resolve database performance issues, blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention.
- Analyze execution plans and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and stored procedures.
- Perform capacity planning and recommend performance improvements.
- Ensure optimal database configuration for high-volume transactional systems.
Production Support
- Provide operational support for mission-critical production databases.
- Troubleshoot database failures and collaborate with cross-functional teams to restore service quickly.
- Participate in database release activities and production deployments.
- Develop operational documentation and support procedures.
High Availability & Reliability
- Support database replication, failover, and high-availability solutions.
- Validate backup integrity and perform recovery testing.
- Recommend improvements that increase database resiliency and operational efficiency.
Collaboration
- Partner with software engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, and application support teams.
- Assist with database architecture reviews and technical planning.
- Mentor junior database administrators and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Must Haves:
- 7+ years of hands-on Database Development/Administration experience.
- Strong experience developing Oracle databases in enterprise production environments.
- Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases in enterprise production environments.
- Experience supporting both Oracle and SQL Server within the same organization.
- Experience with database installation, upgrades, patching, migrations, and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.
- Experience troubleshooting production database issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Experience with SQL performance tuning, indexing strategies, execution plans, and query optimization.
- Experience managing database security, user permissions, and access controls.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desired:
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications.
- Experience working in hybrid or cloud-hosted database environments.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Shell, or Python for automation.
- Experience supporting legacy database environments alongside modern platforms.
- Knowledge of monitoring and performance analysis tools.
- Experience participating in database modernization or migration initiatives.
