The Buyer is responsible for planning, sourcing, and purchasing domestic raw materials and internationally sourced finished goods to support production schedules, inventory objectives, and customer demand. This position serves as a key member of the Supply Chain team by developing strong supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and terms, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring the timely delivery of materials. The Buyer will collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Planning, Engineering, Logistics, Sales, and Finance to maintain an uninterrupted supply chain while identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve supplier performance.
Responsibilities
- Procure domestic raw materials and internationally sourced finished goods to support manufacturing operations and customer demand.
- Create, manage, and maintain purchase orders while ensuring accurate pricing, quantities, delivery dates, and supplier commitments.
- Monitor inventory levels, forecasts, and production schedules to ensure appropriate inventory while minimizing excess and obsolete stock.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers to ensure quality, cost competitiveness, and reliable delivery performance.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and supply agreements to achieve cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Expedite critical materials and proactively resolve supplier delivery issues to minimize production disruptions.
- Coordinate international shipments with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal logistics teams.
- Partner with Engineering and Product Development to source materials and suppliers for new product launches and product changes.
- Evaluate supplier performance using key metrics including on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, and item data within the ERP system.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, inventory optimization, and supplier consolidation.
- Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience purchasing domestic raw materials and/or internationally sourced products preferred.
- Experience working with ERP systems (Oracle EBS experience preferred).
- Understanding of inventory management principles, forecasting, production planning, and Materials Requirements Planning (MRP)
- Experience negotiating pricing, supplier agreements, and commercial terms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Prolonged periods of sitting while working on a computer and reviewing purchasing data.
- Frequent use of computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and team members in person, by phone, and electronically.
- Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel throughout the manufacturing facility, warehouse, and distribution areas as needed to support operations, inventory verification, supplier visits, or cross-functional projects.
- Occasional domestic and international travel may be required for supplier visits, audits, trade shows, or business meetings.
- This position is primarily performed in a professional office environment with regular interaction in manufacturing and warehouse settings.
- Frequent collaboration with Production, Planning, Engineering, Logistics, Quality, Sales, and other cross-functional departments.
- While in manufacturing or warehouse areas, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, forklifts, elevated noise levels, varying temperatures, and other industrial conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
- This position may occasionally require flexibility in work hours to accommodate supplier communications across multiple time zones or to address urgent supply chain issues.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is essential.
