POSITION SUMMARY: Primary responsibilities will be to ensure the Academy’s financial information is complete and accurate and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Further responsibilities include ensuring financial statements are prepared on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis in proper Fund and State reporting formats. Additional responsibilities include payroll review, providing financial support across all functional departments and preparing / analyzing monthly reporting to school operations. Additional financial analysis will include review of new school investments, debt financing, and contract renewals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Financial Accounting

Approve all journal entries related to the Board and Academy Operations each month within the GL system
Approve purchase orders and invoices for payment
USER manager in Financial Accounting system
Ensure recoverable and capital items are properly received and bills are accurate
Review fixed assets in an automated system
Generate the Statement of Net Assets, Balance Sheet, Statement of Activities, Statement of Revenues, Expenditures and Changes in Fund Balance, Cash Flow and Account Analyses, on a recurring and ad-hoc basis
Review bi-weekly payroll for accuracy
Work with core data group to calculate Average Daily Attendance (ADA) and Weighted Average Daily Attendance (WADA) revenue figures.
Monthly review and analysis of school’s financial operations; identification of business reasons underlying the results of operations
Summarize major variances versus budget and forecast and highlight problem areas and trends
Collaborate with direct and indirect stakeholders to develop individual schools’ annual budgets and monthly revised forecasts
Recommend operational and financial improvements including revenue optimization and cost reconfiguration
Assist auditors in filing of tax returns. File 1099’s and city E-6 report
Supervise staff accountant and payables clerk

Operations

Support organization by becoming an expert on State and Federal funding rules
Learn DESE web applications and other peripheral systems in order to ensure financial compliance
Main contact responsible for assisting and providing detailed schedules and support to Chief Financial Officer in conjunction with annual audits
Support month and year-end close, working closely with accounting staff and school personnel
Work closely with purchasing group on capital item refreshes and new project expenditures
Assist staff with inventory tracking and tagging of assets

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of (7) years of demonstrated experience in corporate finance, accounting, or budgeting, or related area of concentration.

Certification/License: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,

commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply

concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid

conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or

diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities: Must have strong operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Apps. Must be able to transport between school buildings and cities. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the business community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all Confluence requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to utilize technology in establishing appropriate record keeping program for all financial management concerns.
