The Assistant Project Manager (APM) works closely with Project Managers, Foremen, Operations, and field personnel to help projects move efficiently from scheduling through field completion and closeout.
The APM is responsible for helping prepare projects for the field, coordinating crews and project logistics, ensuring Foremen have the information and documentation needed to perform the work, monitoring active projects, and completing the administrative closeout once work is finished.
This is a hands-on coordination role that requires strong organization, communication, follow-through, and an understanding of construction operations.
What You’ll Do:
Project Preparation & Field Coordination:
- Review upcoming projects with the Project Manager and prepare them for field operations.
- Prepare complete project folders/packages for Foremen, including plans, scope of work, work orders, engineering documents, job-specific information, and other required documentation.
- Ensure all necessary documents are available in Assignar and attached to the appropriate work order before the project begins.
- Coordinate crew assignments and scheduling under the direction of Project Management and Operations.
- Assist with manpower, equipment, trucking, material, and other jobsite logistics.
- Communicate project information and schedule changes with Foremen and field personnel.
- Help identify missing information or potential issues before crews arrive onsite.
Active Project Support:
- Maintain communication with Foremen and Project Managers while projects are underway.
- Track job progress, schedule, labor requirements, and outstanding items.
- Assist in resolving logistical or administrative issues that could slow down field production.
- Help coordinate schedule changes, additional manpower, equipment, or materials when required.
- Track field employee availability, leave requests, and other items affecting crew scheduling.
- Make occasional site visits to understand job progress, verify project needs, gather information, or assist Project Management.
Project Closeout:
- Review completed projects to confirm required field documentation has been submitted.
- Ensure daily logs, JSA reports, photos, change documentation, and other required records are complete.
- Follow up with Foremen on missing documentation or outstanding project items.
- Organize and finalize the project file for closeout.
- Identify outstanding work, punch-list items, or follow-up requirements and communicate them to the Project Manager.
- Help ensure completed projects are properly transitioned for final billing and administrative closeout.
What You’ll Need:
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple active projects and changing priorities.
- Strong understanding of construction operations or willingness to learn quickly.
- Comfortable working directly with Foremen, field employees, Project Managers, and Operations.
- Ability to read and understand project plans, scopes of work, work orders, and construction documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable using construction management and scheduling software, including Assignar.
- Previous construction, project coordination, Assistant Project Manager, or field operations experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to visit jobsites as needed.
The Assistant Project Manager helps the Project Manager ensure each project is prepared properly, supported during field operations, and completely closed out when the work is finished.
Prepare the job. Support the field. Follow it through. Close it out.
