This is a non-sworn position that operates under the supervision of a sworn member of the department. The incumbent patrols assigned area(s), either on campus or at remote sites, to ensure the safety of residents/tenants, their property, and university-owned and/or controlled assets. Serving as an intermediary for Police, the role involves ensuring compliance with applicable University rules, regulations and policies, including site-specific regulations, and identifying potential hazards.
This position requires a high degree of public contact, responsibility, and community service, including but not limited to providing public information, safety escorts, general crime prevention, lock-out assistance, use of de-escalation techniques, and participation in public presentations. The incumbent observes and reports criminal activity to sworn officers, may make private person’s arrests when necessary, provides direction and assistance to the public, and performs other duties as assigned. This position may be required to wear a body worn video camera or device as needed.

Knowledge of and experience enforcing rules and regulations, security policies and procedures, rights of citizens, and/or applicable state and local laws.
Experience with speaking and presenting information to small and large, diverse groups.
Experience patrolling assigned areas for safety.
Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in all circumstances
Strong verbal and written skills and ability to communicate with all types of individuals in both written and oral forms. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, editing, and proofreading methods.
Ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Demonstrated ability to apply and model the Principles of Community in all interactions.
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results. Candidates will be fingerprinted and have background investigations which may include medical and psychological examinations and drug testing.
Must be available to work overtime.
Must maintain a current, valid Advanced First-Aid and CPR certification.
Must be able to work rotating and/or standard or alternate schedules (e.g.,4 day/week & 10 hr, day, swing or night hour).
Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
Must meet CANRA compliance requirement per “California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (“CANRA,” Penal Code sections 11164-11174.4)”.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $52,367 - $69,071 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $25.08 - $33.08
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
