Full Job Description

About the Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Authorizations Specialist to support our clinical and administrative teams by coordinating insurance authorizations for medical procedures, diagnostic tests, specialist referrals, and medications. This position is responsible for submitting and tracking authorizations, communicating with insurance companies, patients, and providers, and ensuring required documentation is complete and accurate.

The Medical Authorizations Specialist plays an important role in helping prevent delays in patient care by monitoring authorization status, following up with payers, and ensuring services are authorized according to insurance requirements and applicable healthcare regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Obtain and process prior authorizatiosn for diagnostic tests, specialist referrals, procedures, and medications.
Submit required documentation and follow up with insurance companies to ensure timely authorization.
Monitor and track authorization status, expiration dates, and renewal timelines.
Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance companies regarding authorization requirements, status, and next steps.
Maintain accurate authorization records and documentation in the EHR/EMR system.
Review insurance requirements and stay informed of payer policies and changes that may affect authorization procedures.
Collaborate with front desk, billing, and clinical teams to resolve authorization issues and support an efficient patient experience.
Identify opportunities to improve authorization processes and reduce delays or denials.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
Prior experience with medical authorizations, insurance verification, or medical office operations preferred.
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of HIPAA and medical confidentiality requirements.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication.
Experience with EHR systems (e.g., eClinicalWorks) required.

Schedule

Regular Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Early Shifts (7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) may be assigned based on operational needs.
