Full Job Description

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic pulmonary and sleep medicine team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality care to patients with a range of respiratory conditions including asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and other lung-related diseases, along with sleep disorders, and will support post-ICU follow-up care for patients transitioning out of the hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including history, physical exam, and assessment of pulmonary and sleep-related symptoms.
Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests: pulmonary function tests (PFTs), imaging (e.g., chest X-ray, CT), blood work, sleep studies, etc.
Develop and implement patient care plans, including prescribing medications, non-pharmacologic therapies, and lifestyle interventions.
Manage chronic pulmonary conditions (e.g., COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease) and sleep disorders (e.g., obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, restless legs).
Conduct pulmonary follow-up visits to monitor treatment response, adjust therapies, and ensure compliance (e.g., CPAP/BiPAP therapy adherence).
Provide post-ICU hospital follow-up visits for patients recovering from critical respiratory illness, ARDS, prolonged ventilator support, or other ICU-level pulmonary conditions, monitoring recovery and coordinating step-down care.
Conduct sleep medicine follow-up visits to assess treatment response, titrate therapy, and address ongoing sleep-related complaints.
Provide patient and family education on disease processes, inhaler technique, sleep hygiene, and risk factors.
Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, intensivists, and other staff to coordinate care, referrals, and follow-up across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Document all patient encounters accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record (EHR).
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical team meetings, and possibly research projects.
Provide telephone triage and follow-up as needed.
Educate clinical staff (or patients) through one-on-one or group educational sessions (e.g., inhaler technique, disease management).

Qualifications:

Valid and current Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license in the state of Texas.
Master's degree in Nursing (NP) or Physician Assistant studies.
Certification in Pulmonology or relevant specialty is a plus.
2+ years of clinical experience in pulmonary, critical care, sleep medicine, or internal medicine preferred (new graduates with strong pulmonary interest will be considered).
Experience with ICU/critical care follow-up or step-down patient management is a plus.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
