The Cinematographer is responsible for creating compelling marketing videos that support UTEP’s educational, research, and community service missions. While primary tasks include shooting and editing videos, the Cinematographer is also often responsible for pre-production, principal photography, and post-production tasks for UTEP’s various video productions.
The Cinematographer will work with other members of the UTEP Creative team to produce high-impact videos that meet and exceed the quality standards commensurate with an R1 research institution and a key member of Texas’s flagship university system.
Capture video and audio footage for UTEP’s promotional needs using modern digital cameras and audio equipment.
Edit footage into engaging, effective videos that convey UTEP’s strategic messages.
In collaboration with marketing leadership, conceive, script, storyboard, plan, and help execute full video productions.
Scout locations and talent to achieve the appropriate aesthetic for each project.
Provide direction to on-screen talent during shoots as needed.
Support the capture of live events on video as needed.
Provide coverage for occasional weekend and late-night events as required.
Provide technical and creative guidance on lighting during video shoots.
Art direct the creation of sets and locations when necessary.
Work closely with project managers to ensure creative briefs and project scopes meet stakeholder expectations.
Occasionally serve as a project manager for complex video projects involving multiple creative contributors.
Maintain familiarity with UTEP’s Strategic Plan, Strategic Messaging Guide, and Visual Brand Guide, ensuring all deliverables align with these standards.
Provide constructive feedback and creative input on colleagues’ work within the Marcomm Division.
In collaboration with the Creative Team Lead, support the organization and cataloging of video assets.
Occasionally support the capture of still images for marketing efforts.
Mentor students and junior members of the video creative team.
Complies with all State and University policies.
