Full Job Description

The Environmental Monitor will conduct natural resources-based field evaluations associated with border wall construction activities. The monitor must be knowledgeable of the southwest border region and qualified to identify sensitive natural resources, perform nest surveys during bird nesting season, and mark any areas for avoidance or buffer zones. The monitor must identify any BMP infractions, identify compliance issues, conduct surveys, photograph observations, and be able to perform environmental awareness training. A knowledge of the local flora, fauna, and associated habitats is required.

Essential Functions and Requirements:

Record data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner.
Plans and coordinates field assessments, archival research, and report preparation pertaining to wildlife, native plants, and habitats found in the Southwest per the project scope of work.
Records data and observations in an accurate and well-organized manner.
Conducts native plant and wildlife assessments and prepares inventory reports.
Assist in the maintenance of field and monitoring equipment.
Ability to read and interpret maps and navigate variable terrain, including operating vehicles.
Prepare technical reports detailing monitoring activities.
Works directly with and communicates effectively with interdisciplinary regulatory agency project teams, clients, and subcontractors.
Follows all safety policies and procedures effectively and efficiently.
May perform QA/QC of technical documents when needed.
Reviews daily Job Environmental Analysis (JEA) reports that detail project-specific environmental issues.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in the biological or environmental sciences or related field
Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and their habitats
Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience preferred
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact and collaborate with all levels of management and staff
Ability to work in remote locations either as a team or solo
Knowledge of utilizing MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and GIS applications, including Field Maps and Survey 123 or similar data collection software
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Driver’s license is required.
Experience driving off road, 4x4, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
