Full Job Description

Harbor Interfaith Services (HIS) is a non-profit organization based in San Pedro, with a mission to provide food, shelter, transitional housing, childcare, and support services to the homeless and working poor in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, Service Planning Area (SPA) 8.

Harbor Interfaith Services is looking to add a full time Case Advocate/Driver to our team. This position will provide advocacy to our homeless and low income clients. This position has a set schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm and reports to the Director of the Family Resource Center. We are recruiting people who are top performers with excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills and a fierce passion for serving the community.

Key responsibilities:

Advocating on behalf of low-income & homeless families who are having challenges with CalWorks, General Relief, Food Stamps, Medi-Cal or other government benefits

Completing/updating intakes with food pantry clients

Referring clients to appropriate government benefits programs and community resources

Maintaining accurate case files for all clients served and using computer database to log in information

Completing and providing monthly statistical data to FRC Director in a timely manner

Answering telephones, filing and maintaining case files as required

Maintaining accurate lists of all open cases

Screening applicants for overnight voucher program

Coordinate, organize, interpret and promote workshops

Picking up USDA commodities weekly

Providing transportation to the children’s center, specifically the HIS Kids Program

Attending case conferences, trainings, and meetings as required and completing other duties as assigned

We would like to speak with you if:

You have the ability to listen with sensitivity to others’ feelings, needs, and points of view.

You have the ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy while projecting a positivity.

You are familiar with the Harm Reduction and Housing First models of service delivery.

You have a valid California Class B driver’s license, a clean driving record with no more than two driving infraction points, and adequate auto insurance.
