Eldorado Memorial Public Library

Job Description – Assistant Library Director

Salary Schedule: $34,000 per year; 32 hours per week

Summary: Oversee day-to-day and weekly operations of Eldorado Memorial Public Library.

Essential Duties:

Direct circulation desk staff and tasks
Create work schedule for Eldorado Memorial Public Library staff
Manage and purchase library supplies
Manage cataloging of library materials
Manage indoor and outdoor library spaces
Manage overdue operations
Manage circulation reports and notices
Manage library social media channels
Coordinate and market library programming and events
Represent the library at community events
Coordinate library volunteer workforce
Act as interim Director in the Director’s absence
Other duties as assigned

EML’s Library Director must also be proficient at all duties performed by the EML Lead Library Clerk.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily by the end of the first 90 days of service. Individuals are expected to be proficient at assigned tasks. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Knowledge and/or prior experience in the following areas is preferred: customer service, organization, working on a team, and working with computer hardware and software.

Communication and Interpersonal Skill Requirements: EML’s Assistant Library Director must be able to work with minimal supervision, be coachable, have good judgment, perform well under pressure, promote the library in a positive manner through interactions with patrons and visitors, readily adapt to change, and effectively work with teammates, details, and patrons simultaneously. They will use email and other technology to connect and communicate with staff and patrons.

Schedule: This job is a salary position and requires daytime, evening, and occasional weekend hours. Work schedules will be made to benefit the library’s best interest.

All staff members at Eldorado Memorial Public Library are expected to be on time, neatly groomed, respectful to staff members, courteous to patrons, and generally helpful.
