Director of Human Resources

Client: Behavioral Health Organization

Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Human Resources function for a behavioral health organization. This role partners closely with executive leadership to develop and execute people strategies that support organizational growth, workforce engagement, compliance, and operational excellence. The Director of HR provides leadership across talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, learning and development, compliance, and HR operations while fostering a culture centered on compassion, accountability, and inclusion.

Essential Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Develop and implement HR strategies that align with organizational goals and business objectives.
Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, and employee engagement.
Lead change management initiatives that support organizational growth and transformation.
Establish HR metrics and reporting to drive data-informed decision making.

Talent Management

Oversee talent acquisition strategies to attract and retain high-quality clinical, operational, and corporate talent.
Develop workforce planning initiatives to address staffing challenges within behavioral health services.
Lead performance management programs, succession planning, and leadership development initiatives.
Promote employee engagement and retention through innovative people programs.

Employee Relations

Provide guidance on complex employee relations matters while ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
Conduct or oversee workplace investigations and conflict resolution.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture.
Coach leaders on employee performance, communication, and development.

HR Operations & Compliance

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Oversee HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook updates.
Maintain compliance with healthcare-specific regulations and accreditation requirements as applicable.
Partner with Legal and Compliance teams on risk management initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits

Oversee compensation philosophy, salary administration, and market benchmarking.
Manage employee benefits programs and vendor relationships.
Support annual compensation planning and performance review cycles.

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop the Human Resources team.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operational and clinical leaders to support organizational objectives.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
8+ years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience, including experience managing HR teams.
Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
Experience leading employee relations, talent management, and organizational development initiatives.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with executive leadership.

Preferred

Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field.
SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification.
Experience supporting healthcare, behavioral health, mental health, or other highly regulated environments.
Experience with HRIS systems and workforce analytics.

Working Conditions

Primarily office or hybrid work environment with periodic travel to organizational locations as needed.
Ability to attend meetings, conduct presentations, and occasionally participate in recruitment or organizational events outside of standard business hours.
