About Dexter

Dexter is a 29-room boutique hotel in Elk Rapids, Michigan that brings together thoughtfully designed accommodations, a neighborhood café, and an evening lounge under one roof.

The property was conceived with a strong emphasis on craft, materiality, and a sense of place. Interiors layer custom furnishings, vintage pieces sourced locally, and objects created by regional makers to create an environment that feels collected, warm, and intentional.

At the center of the hotel is Noble Lounge, a refined but approachable gathering space offering handcrafted cocktails, wine, and a thoughtfully prepared food menu for both hotel guests and the local community. During the day, the café provides espresso, coffee, breakfast, and light fare, creating a welcoming rhythm from morning through evening.

Dexter was created to feel less like a traditional hotel and more like a well-lived home where design, food, and hospitality come together naturally.

Our team is small, collaborative, and detail-oriented. Every role contributes directly to the guest experience, and we take pride in creating an environment where craftsmanship, consistency, and genuine hospitality define everything we do.

Position Overview

The Line Cook plays a critical role in delivering the Dexter dining experience. Working alongside the Executive Chef and kitchen team, this position is responsible for preparing and executing menu items with consistency, efficiency, and attention to detail while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking from scratch, values teamwork, and takes pride in producing thoughtful food that reflects the Dexter brand.

Responsibilities

Prepare and cook breakfast, café, and dinner menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards.
Set up, stock, and maintain an organized workstation before, during, and after service.
Execute food consistently while maintaining quality during busy service periods.
Assist with daily prep, butchery, portioning, and ingredient preparation.
Maintain proper food handling, storage, labeling, and rotation procedures.
Ensure compliance with all health department, sanitation, and food safety regulations.
Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and operating efficiently throughout each shift.
Communicate effectively with the Executive Chef and fellow team members.
Assist with inventory, receiving deliveries, and minimizing food waste.
Support special events, private dinners, and seasonal menu changes.
Help foster a positive, respectful, and team-first culture.

Qualifications

Previous experience as a line cook or prep cook preferred.
Passion for cooking and hospitality.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Reliable, punctual, and professional.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
