Field Service Engineer – Compressed Air Systems

Location: Omaha, NE
Territory: Nebraska, South Dakota & Western Iowa
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $80,000 - $110,000+ annually, depending on experience

H.G. Klug Sons is a family-owned compressed air equipment distributor and service provider based in Omaha, Nebraska. Since 1988, we have partnered with industrial and manufacturing customers throughout Nebraska, South Dakota, and Western Iowa to provide reliable compressed air equipment, preventative maintenance, repairs, and technical support.

As an authorized Kaeser Compressors distributor, we serve a wide range of industrial customers who depend on compressed air systems to keep their operations running. When those systems experience complex issues, our customers rely on us to diagnose problems, identify solutions, and get their facilities back online.

We are seeking a highly skilled Field Service Engineer who thrives on solving technical problems, troubleshooting complex equipment, and serving as a trusted advisor to customers.

Position Summary

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex compressed air system and electro-mechanical equipment issues at customer facilities throughout our service territory.

Unlike a traditional service technician role, this position requires advanced technical expertise, independent decision-making, and the ability to identify root causes rather than simply replace components.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys challenging technical work, working directly with customers, and finding solutions in industrial environments where downtime is costly and reliability matters.

What You'll Do

Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues
Perform advanced troubleshooting on industrial compressed air systems and related equipment
Analyze system performance and identify root causes of failures
Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical drawings
Recommend repairs, upgrades, and system improvements
Support equipment installations, startups, and commissioning activities
Prepare detailed service reports, diagnostic findings, and technical recommendations for review by company leadership and customer follow-up
Serve as a technical resource for customers and internal team members
Complete detailed service documentation and reports
Travel throughout Nebraska, South Dakota, and Western Iowa to support customer operations

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or related technical field
Minimum 5 years of relevant industrial experience
Strong background in troubleshooting electro-mechanical equipment
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
Strong understanding of motors, controls, electrical systems, and industrial equipment
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Professional communication skills and customer-facing experience
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following:

Compressed air systems
Industrial air compressors
Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Motor controls
PLC-controlled equipment
Industrial automation systems
Manufacturing and production environments
HVAC or process equipment
Root cause failure analysis

Relevant certifications, factory training, or specialized technical certifications are highly desirable.

Travel Requirements

Travel is a regular part of this position and is essential to success in the role.

Most weeks include one overnight stay
Occasional additional overnight travel may be required
Territory includes Nebraska, South Dakota, and Western Iowa
Company-paid hotel accommodations during overnight travel
Per diem meal allowance provided
Additional travel premium compensation available

Compensation & Benefits

$80,000 - $110,000+ annually depending on qualifications and experience
