Full Job Description

Physicians of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics is seeking a motivated, personable, and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our growing primary care team.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with physicians and patients, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and wants to grow their knowledge of medical billing, coding, insurance, and healthcare administration. As the first point of contact for our patients, you will play an important role in creating a welcoming, organized, and efficient office experience.

Spanish/English bilingual skills are required. Candidates must be able to communicate confidently and professionally with patients in both languages.

Required Qualifications

Fluent Spanish and English required.
Minimum of 2 years of medical receptionist, medical front desk, or healthcare administrative experience preferred.
Strong customer service, communication, and phone skills.
Ability to manage a busy front desk, patient flow, scheduling, and payment collection confidently.
Comfortable multitasking while remaining professional, organized, and patient-focused.
Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and healthcare office workflows.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
Dependable, self-motivated, professional, and able to work well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Greet patients warmly and professionally upon arrival.
Register patients and collect accurate demographic, contact, and insurance information.
Schedule, confirm, reschedule, and manage patient appointments and provider calendars.
Assist patients with check-in, check-out, portal registration, and general office needs.
Answer incoming calls, respond to patient questions, and provide clear information in both English and Spanish.
Verify insurance coverage and coordinate with billing partners as needed.
Collect copays, process payments, post transactions, and assist with basic billing-related questions.
Manage referrals, incoming faxes, medical record requests, scanning, and other front-office administrative tasks.
Work within systems such as Athena, Availity, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Canva, and insurance portals.
Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, patient privacy, and office policies.
Support providers and clinical staff by helping maintain an efficient patient flow throughout the day.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using Athena or another electronic medical record system.
Familiarity with Availity, insurance portals, eligibility verification, referrals, and authorizations.
Interest in learning medical billing and coding processes.
Experience with PHO programs or coordinated care networks is a plus.
Experience in internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, primary care, or another clinical setting.

Schedule and Benefits

Schedule:

Full-time
Monday through Friday, day shift
8-hour shifts
Occasional Saturday shift, approximately once per month
