Full Job Description

Estimator - General Trades

Objectives of this Role

Provide estimates for general trade disciplines on select Construction Management, Design Build and General Contracting commercial building projects. Thorough review of drawings and specifications and understanding of project contracts and schedules. Ability to translate design intent into precise, actionable budgets, incorporating labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Ability to work under tight timelines and to present clear written and verbal communications.

Reports to: Director of Preconstruction

Job Responsibilities

· Provide thorough, accurate and complete takeoffs for program, schematic, design development. and construction document design deliverables

. Ability to identify risks relative to lead time and pricing

. Ability to recognize missing information in early conceptual designs based on a deep understanding of construction means, methods, materials and sequencing

· Analysis of contract documents relative to general conditions, contingencies, and allowable markups

· Estimate management and follow up with suppliers and subcontractors especially for specialty scope of work items

· Ability to take the Lead on project estimates including the incorporation and review of estimates performed by other internal MEP estimators.

· Take the initiative in addressing and requesting further information from the design teams in order to provide complete estimates of the Projects intent regardless of design stage.

· Ability to clarify and document any assumptions made in preparation of estimates and the ability to present to various Project Stakeholders for appropriate review

. Participate in Value Management pricing for budget reduction requests

· Ability to communicate effectively with various project stakeholders

· Ability to work as part of an estimating team in collaborative office environment.

· Use of excel based software for estimate format and production and on-screen quantity takeoff software

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

· Advanced knowledge of commercial building estimating techniques relative to various project delivery approaches

· Ability to work with Excel and computerized takeoff software

· Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience is desired

· Ability to maintain confidentiality, of work, at all times.
