Full Job Description

This is a full-time, 10-month Administrative and Professional position in the Oberlin College & Conservatory Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS). The position is structured as 80% generalist clinical and professional responsibilities and 20% multicultural specialty functions. The position combines generalist clinical practice with a clearly protected 20% allocation for multicultural outreach, consultation, partnership development, and identity-affirming programming.

The clinician is a culturally responsive member of a collaborative team and provides services to the full student population. This clinician also demonstrates specialized skills and strong interest in providing direct service and outreach to students of color who may be experiencing personal concerns, academic concerns, and race-based trauma. In addition, this provider assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of services for marginalized and underrepresented student groups, including, but not limited to, Black/African American, Asian American, Latinx/Hispanic, international, student-athlete, disabled, neurodiverse, and LGBTQ+ students. This specialist serves as the liaison to campus departments and services that support diverse and marginalized students and reports to the Director of CAPS.

Responsibilities

1. Generalist Clinical and Professional Responsibilities (80%)

Generalist clinical service delivery is the primary function of this role. This clinician is expected to provide services to the full student population and maintain a clinical caseload consistent with IACS benchmarks and CAPS operational standards. This allocation is inclusive of documentation, case management, and consultation. The expected minimum direct client-contact target is 36 hours per two-week period. This expectation will be adjusted when the clinician is assigned supervision or other substantial responsibilities. Services and assigned professional responsibilities include:

Individual therapy: time-limited, culturally responsive, with expertise serving students of color and other marginalized identities

Group therapy: facilitation of identity-affirming and evidence-based therapeutic groups, as assigned

Walk-in/crisis intervention: same-day assessment, stabilization, and referral

Case management and coordination of care with campus and community resources

Clinical documentation completed within 24-48 hours of session, per CAPS policy

Participation in a monthly divisional staff meeting, weekly staff meetings, and case consultations

Providing individual and/or group clinical supervision to preprofessional doctoral trainees, only when a trainee is assigned

2. Multicultural Specialty Functions (20%)

This clinician serves as CAPS’ primary liaison to marginalized student communities and identity-affirming campus partners. Outreach activities are planned, time-bounded, and aligned with documented need. Populations of focus include but are not limited to: Black/African American, Asian American, Latinx/Hispanic, International, LGBTQ+, student athletes, disabled, and neurodiverse students.

Outreach responsibilities include:

Developing and facilitating 2-3 signature outreach events per semester in collaboration with campus partners (e.g., MRC, GSAI, African Heritage House, Health Promotion, Student Athlete Wellness, ORSL)

Providing mental health consultation and psychoeducation to student organizations, faculty, and staff on diversity-related mental health concerns

Serving as CAPS’ representative on relevant campus committees and diversity initiatives (e.g., DEI Campus Partners, Dialogue Collective) within the allocated time ceiling

Liaison coordination with campus departments serving marginalized students; regular (monthly or bimonthly) structured meetings with key partners

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited institution.

Supervised experience in a college or university counseling center (or comparable setting).

Current independent licensure in mental health practice (Psychologist, LPCC, LISW, or MFT) or eligibility for licensure in the State of Ohio within 12 months of hire.

Strong commitment to confidentiality, ethical standards, and compliance with federal and state regulations including HIPAA and FERPA.

Demonstrated multicultural competence and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Desired Qualifications

Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., or D.S.W.) in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work.

Completion of an APA-accredited internship.

Experience working with students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, and other underrepresented populations.
