Full-Time | Landscape Construction | Experienced Professional
LandCrafts LLC is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day production and field operations of our landscape design and installation company.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands landscape construction from the ground up. The ideal candidate has significant experience with both hardscape and softscape installation, can confidently operate trucks, trailers, and landscape machinery, and knows how to keep crews, materials, equipment, vendors, and projects moving efficiently.
Industry experience is required. Candidates without professional landscape construction experience will not be considered.
About the Role
The Operations Manager is responsible for maximizing the efficiency and productivity of LandCrafts' landscape crews while working closely with the Owner, Production Supervisor, Foremen, Designers, vendors, and clients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for turning project plans into organized, efficient field production—making sure crews have the right materials, equipment, information, and schedule to complete projects correctly and profitably.
This position requires someone who can manage operations while also understanding what is actually happening in the field.
Key ResponsibilitiesField Operations & Production
- Oversee daily and weekly landscape production and crew workflow.
- Work closely with the Owner, Production Supervisor, and Foremen to prioritize projects and tasks.
- Monitor job progress and identify scheduling or production issues before they become problems.
- Coordinate sequencing of hardscape, grading, irrigation, planting, edging, fabric, rock, and other landscape construction phases.
- Help ensure projects are completed efficiently, professionally, and according to LandCrafts' standards.
- Visit active job sites regularly and communicate with crews and foremen.
- Assist with solving field problems, material issues, access issues, and scheduling conflicts.
Hardscape & Softscape
Strong experience in BOTH hardscape and softscape construction is required.
Candidates should have practical knowledge of:
- Paver and concrete hardscape installation
- Retaining walls
- Grading and drainage
- Boulder installation
- Rock and mulch installation
- Sod and planting
- Irrigation systems
- Soil preparation
- Landscape construction sequencing
- General landscape installation practices
You must be able to understand how landscape projects are physically built—not simply manage them from a desk.
Materials & Purchasing
- Coordinate material deliveries and pickups to keep crews productive.
- Plan material needs in advance and minimize unnecessary trips.
- Measure and verify material quantities when project conditions or designs change.
- Coordinate rock, wall block, pavers, plants, irrigation materials, soil, sod, and other construction materials.
- Maintain strong relationships with landscape suppliers, nurseries, and subcontractors.
- Compare vendor pricing and help maintain healthy project margins.
- Verify that invoices and receipts are properly associated with the correct project.
- Coordinate plant tagging, nursery pickups, and will-call orders.
Scheduling
- Develop and adjust production schedules with the Production Supervisor and Foremen.
- Coordinate projects around weather, material availability, crew availability, and project sequencing.
- Communicate schedule changes quickly and effectively.
- Coordinate client access when required for irrigation, electrical, backflow, or other work.
- Identify scheduling conflicts before they impact production.
Trucks, Trailers & Equipment
Strong experience operating and maintaining landscape trucks, trailers, and machinery is REQUIRED.
The Operations Manager must be comfortable with:
- Driving and maneuvering work trucks
- Towing landscape/construction trailers
- Loading and securing equipment and materials
- Skid steers
- Trenchers
- Rototillers
- Plate compactors
- Other landscape construction equipment
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring trucks, trailers, machinery, and tools remain in good working condition.
- Coordinating routine maintenance and repairs.
- Maintaining equipment maintenance records.
- Making sure crews perform required daily/regular equipment checks.
- Identifying equipment problems before they result in downtime.
- Coordinating mechanic appointments and repairs with the Owner.
Communication & Leadership
- Maintain consistent communication with the Owner, Production Supervisor, Foremen, Designers, vendors, and clients.
- Keep company communication channels available throughout the workday.
- Respond promptly to operational issues and schedule changes.
- Provide direction and support to field crews.
- Help maintain accountability for productivity, quality, safety, and professionalism.
- Communicate problems early rather than allowing them to become larger issues.
Customer Service
- Coordinate approved warranty and customer service work efficiently.
- Work with the customer service representative to schedule repairs and plant replacements.
- Batch service calls whenever practical to minimize production downtime.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with homeowners.
- Ensure customer service work does not unnecessarily disrupt active production.
Inventory & Project Closeout
- Maintain appropriate inventory of commonly used landscape materials and supplies.
- Ensure trailers are stocked with everyday field necessities.
- Conduct regular inventory checks.
- Coordinate final material lists before project walkthroughs.
- Collect and organize project receipts.
- Communicate additional work performed by crews.
- Assist with final project walkthrough preparation.
Required Qualifications
These requirements are firm:
- Professional landscape construction industry experience — REQUIRED
- Hardscape construction experience — REQUIRED
- Softscape/planting experience — REQUIRED
- Experience operating work trucks and towing trailers — REQUIRED
- Experience operating landscape/construction machinery — REQUIRED
- Ability to read and understand landscape construction plans
- Strong understanding of landscape construction methods and sequencing
- Strong knowledge of plant material and horticultural practices
- Understanding of irrigation systems
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors and be physically present on active construction sites
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of landscape construction experience
- Previous foreman, production supervisor, project manager, or operations management experience
- Experience managing multiple landscape construction crews
- Experience with project scheduling and job costing
- Experience purchasing landscape materials
- Strong knowledge of Denver/Colorado landscape construction practices
- Experience working with landscape design plans and specifications
- CDL or additional equipment certifications are a plus
