Position Summary:
The Professional Motor Coach (MC) Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and courteous operation of company-owned motor coaches and other passenger vehicles in compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), Department of Transportation (DOT) rules, and American Safety Transit LLC policies. This position plays a key role in ensuring that passengers are transported safely, comfortably, and on time to their destinations while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate a motor coach or other passenger vehicle in a safe and lawful manner at all times.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with DOT regulations and company procedures.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness, proper fueling, and general readiness prior to each trip.
- Safely transport passengers to scheduled destinations according to assigned routes or itineraries.
- Load and unload passenger baggage and assist passengers with special needs when required.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, inspection reports, and driver hours of service in compliance with DOT regulations and company policy.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, DOT safety requirements, and company safety procedures.
- Communicate promptly with dispatch and operations staff regarding route changes, delays, or mechanical issues.
- Maintain professional appearance and courteous demeanor at all times while representing American Safety Transit LLC.
- Participate in required safety meetings, training sessions, and random drug and alcohol testing programs.
- Immediately report any accidents, violations, or unsafe conditions to management.
- Support other company transportation activities as assigned, including charter, shuttle, or special event operations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum age: 25 years.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class B or higher with Passenger (P) Endorsement and Air Brake Certification.
- Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major violations in the past 3 years.
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience preferred (motor coach, school bus, or commercial passenger transport).
- Knowledge of DOT Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and FMCSA compliance standards.
- Ability to read maps (software), follow GPS directions, and adhere to scheduled itineraries.
- Professional appearance, strong interpersonal communication skills, and customer service orientation.
- Must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen, background check, and road test.
- Must have open availability, including early mornings, overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and operate a motor vehicle for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50lbs (luggage or equipment).
- Ability to assist passengers safely entering and exiting the vehicle.
Work Environment:
- May be exposed to varying weather conditions and long-distance travel.
- Work hours may include weekends, holidays, and overnight trips.
- Must remain alert and focused while operating vehicle for extended periods.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent driving and navigational skills.
- Professional communication and customer service demeanor.
- Strong attention to detail, situational awareness, and safety compliance.
- Ability to complete electronic logs and company reporting forms accurately.
- Must have computer literacy for compliance systems and route management tools (e.g., ELD, GPS, dispatch apps).
Safety and Compliance:
All drivers must comply with the American Safety Transit LLC DOT Compliance Manual, participate in ongoing training and random testing, and immediately report any incidents, citations, or medical conditions affecting safe driving performance.
Cross-Training Requirement
While your job description defines your primary responsibilities, the company may require you to perform additional duties outside of your regular role as business needs arise. Cross-training ensures that all employees are prepared to support operations and contribute to overall team success.
