JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant will greet and assist patients and visitors, answer telephone, schedule appointments, file, and collect payments. Assist Clinical personnel with providing patient care to clinic patients.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In times or periods of need, will report as assigned to any of the LECOM Institute for Successful Living facilities, entities or affiliates;
- Knowledge, skills, attitude, and energy to consistently provide resident centered care;
- Promotes and preserves the mission of LECOM Institute for Successful Living;
- Maintains and promotes ethical conduct of employees, addresses residents in a friendly manner, creating a safe and productive environment;
Clerical Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet all patients and visitors cheerfully;
- Answer telephone, triage calls, and maintain a log of same;
- Schedule appointments and referrals to other providers;
- Collect fees from patients for services rendered, if due, and also any outstanding balance;
- Reconcile receipts at end of day and prepare deposits;
- Maintain neat, clean, and professional work area;
- ALWAYS KEEP ALL PATIENT INFORMATION CONFIDENTIAL
- Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control;
- Assist in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Alert Office Manager to any equipment malfunction;
- Attend in-services and other required meetings;
- Enhance professional growth and development through in-service meetings, educational programs, etc.;
- Staff scheduling: Daily Assignment Sheet; and
Clinical Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Consult with and keep supervisor informed of clinic activities, needs and problems related to patient care;
- Comply with established patient care standards;
- Maintain established clinic policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control;
- Follow established routines and utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner;
- Maintain a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients and personnel;
- Cooperate with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee, interdepartmental and public relations;
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information and abide by established communications cod;
- Take patient vital signs, height and weight and record them in the medical record;
- Attend required meetings, in-services, and educational programs;
- Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations;
- Pharmacy delivery intake and reconciliation; · Will assist with covering call offs;
General duties and responsibilities:
- Works cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;
- Reports to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM; and
- Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Director of Nursing, Administrator and other management personnel from time to time; and
- Accept other duties needed/assigned for the Institution’s needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and experience equivalent to:
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred but not required;
- CPR preferred;
- Sufficient previous clinical experience in Physician office/medical clinic;
- Ability to deal with the public, patients, and fellow staff in a position of moderate stress;
- Ability to handle busy, multi-line phone system in a pleasant and professional manner;
- Must possess typing and/or data processing skills;
- Knowledge of medical terminology helpful; and
- Desire to learn.
