Job Overview:
A Commercial Glazier Project Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial glass and glazing projects (e.g., curtain walls, storefronts, windows, glass partitions). Their role bridges field operations, design, and business management. Here’s a breakdown of all typical job duties across the project lifecycle.
Duties Included:
Pre-Construction / Planning Phase
1. Review Project Documents:
- Study architectural plans, specifications, shop drawings, and glazing schedules.
- Identify scope, special conditions, and risks.
- Ensure code compliance (e.g., fire ratings, thermal performance, wind loads).
2. Estimating Support (if involved in pre-bid):
- Collaborate with estimators to understand project cost structure.
- Assist in identifying VE (Value Engineering) opportunities.
3. Material & System Selection:
- Coordinate with vendors to select glass types, framing systems, sealants, and accessories.
- Evaluate lead times, availability, and compatibility with project specs.
4. Budget Development:
- Finalize budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Establish cost tracking systems.
5. Scheduling:
- Develop detailed project schedules using software like Procore.
- Coordinate milestone dates with general contractors and other trades.
Project Execution / Construction Phase
6. Procurement & Logistics:
- Order all glass, metal framing, hardware, sealants, and specialty components.
- Manage lead times and delivery coordination.
- Ensure materials are on-site when needed and in proper condition.
7. Submittals & Approvals:
- Submit shop drawings, material samples, and mock-ups to GC/architect for approval.
- Track RFIs (Requests for Information) and changes.
8. Field Coordination:
- Schedule and supervise field crews (glaziers, foremen, installers).
- Coordinate with site superintendents, other trades, and safety officers.
- Resolve job site issues.
9. Quality Control:
- Ensure proper installation techniques.
- Monitor sealants, spacing, anchoring, and waterproofing.
- Conduct field measurements and inspections.
10. Safety Management:
- Enforce OSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Hold toolbox talks and jobsite safety audits.
Project Controls & Communication
11. Cost Tracking & Forecasting:
- Monitor labor hours, material usage, change orders, and productivity.
- Identify and mitigate cost overruns.
- Submit monthly billing and pay applications.
12. Change Management:
- Identify and document change orders.
- Price and submit COs with supporting documentation.
- Negotiate approvals with GC or client.
13. Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain project logs: RFIs, submittals, COs, meeting notes, deliveries.
- Provide regular status updates to internal and external stakeholders.
14. Meetings & Coordination:
- Attend OAC (Owner/Architect/Contractor) meetings.
- Lead internal project meetings with fabrication, logistics, and installation teams.
15. Client Relations:
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients/GCs.
- Maintain professionalism and responsiveness.
Closeout Phase
16. Punch Lists:
- Walk the project with GC or architect to complete punch list items.
- Coordinate rework or replacement as needed.
17. As-Built Drawings & Documentation:
- Provide final drawings, warranties, and O&M (Operations & Maintenance) manuals.
18. Project Handoff & Lessons Learned:
- Conduct internal debriefs on project performance.
- Archive project documentation.
- Contribute to company knowledge base for process improvement.
Additional Responsibilities
19. Team Management:
- Supervise assistant PMs, project coordinators, or drafters.
- Mentor junior staff on glazing processes.
20. Process Improvement:
- Suggest workflow improvements, software tools, or vendor alternatives.
- Help streamline estimating-to-installation processes.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
