About the Position

Probation Support Technicians I provide specialized technical and administrative support to probation/pretrial services officers in a wide range of areas, including compiling information for investigations, conducting data entry, preparing drafts of reports and correspondence, coordinating with collateral agencies, and performing similar duties as assigned in accordance with approved internal procedures and policies.

Duties

Assist probation/pretrial services officers in compiling criminal histories/profiles, running record checks through local and national databases and files, conducting inquiries with collateral agencies, collecting verifiable and supportable documentation, and performing similar activities. Enter data and information into the office’s computerized database system.
Prepare and process forms and documents, ensuring consistency and accuracy among court supplied documents, officer reports, and related paperwork. Contact various local, state, and national law enforcement and regulatory agencies to collect and record information to assist with investigations. Obtain related records on offenders/defendants, following established practices and protocols. Prepare and update case files and reports investigation and supervision, at the direction of an officer and consistent with established policies and practices. Format, type, and edit reports prepared by officers.
Operate the local/state law enforcement information retrieval system and Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) terminals to obtain criminal history information and route the information to appropriate recipients. Obtain fingerprint and credit checks, verifications of employment and education, and send FBI flash notices.
Open, close, and update information into computerized records, including the Probation Automated Case Tracking Systems (PACTS). Research information from case records and enter in the system as appropriate. Screen forms completed by officers and officer assistants and request corrections as needed. Retrieve information from databases and generate periodic reports.
Provide general clerical support by performing any or all of the following tasks: Answer telephones and take messages; copy and distribute documents; send and receive faxes and electronic mail messages; receive and distribute mail; attend meetings and take minutes; provide reception assistance including greeting callers and/or visitors; order and store office supplies; assist officers and officer assistants with word processing or other computer matters.
Assist with administration of the Law Enforcement Notification System (LENS) including processing searches and notifications.
Track and monitor Bureau of Prison (BOP) release reports to ensure all persons under supervision have reported for supervision/probation.
Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required Education and/or Experience –

High school diploma or equivalent is required along with two years’ general clerical experience. Education above the high school level may be substituted for required general experience based on one academic year (30 semester or 45 quarter hours of undergraduate study) equals one year of general experience.

Selective Factors

Skill in use of automated equipment including mobile devices, word processing, spreadsheets, database applications, and various other types of software.
Ability to organize and prioritize duties as assigned.
Ability to work under pressure and with short deadlines while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, foster high ethical standards, and demonstrate integrity in meeting the district’s vision, mission, and goals.
Ability to interact and communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with the Court, attorneys, treatment providers, co-workers, people of diverse backgrounds, and others.

Preferred Skills

One year of specialized experience; progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures that demonstrate the ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws and involve the routine use of specialized terminology and automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry or report · generation. Such experience is commonly encountered in law firms, legal counsel offices, banking and credit firms, educational institutions, social service organizations, insurance companies, real estate and title offices, and corporate headquarters or human resources/payroll operations.
Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a field of academic study, such as criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, human relations, or business or public administration.
Current or prior experience in a legal, human services, and/or community corrections setting performing similar duties.
General knowledge of the criminal justice system and legal terminology;

Pay: $40,346.00 - $72,654.00 per year
