Human Resources Specialist

LECOM Medical Center and Behavioral Health Pavilion
Erie, PA | Full-Time | In-Person

Position Summary

The Human Resources Specialist plays a key, hands-on role in supporting daily HR operations within a healthcare environment. This position is instrumental in onboarding, compliance, and employee support, while also serving as cross-trained backup in recruitment and benefits administration.

Key ResponsibilitiesOnboarding & New Hire Readiness

Coordinate pre-employment and onboarding processes for all new hires
Ensure completion of background checks, drug screens, and credential verifications
Prepare new hire materials and support orientation, including ID badge creation

Regulatory Compliance & Audits

Maintain accurate and compliant employee records in accordance with Joint Commission, CMS, and DOH standards
Conduct routine audits of employee files and training requirements
Assist with regulatory surveys, audits, and accreditation readiness
Monitor and track expiring licenses, certifications, and required documentation

Recruitment Support

Provide backup support to Talent Acquisition during high-volume periods
Assist with job postings, candidate screening, and interview coordination
Represent the organization at career fairs, campus events, and community outreach initiatives

Benefits & Leave Administration Support

Serve as backup for employee benefits support and inquiries
Assist with health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness program navigation
Support leave of absence processes (FMLA, short-term disability, workers’ compensation)
Assist with annual Open Enrollment activities

HR Operations & Employee Support

Act as a resource for employees regarding HR policies and procedures
Support employee engagement initiatives and HR projects
Assist with HR reporting, including turnover, retention, and hiring metrics

Leave & Accommodations Coordination

Track and manage employee leaves and accommodation requests
Ensure proper documentation and compliance with applicable policies and regulations

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
2–4 years of HR experience (healthcare experience strongly preferred)
Experience with HRIS systems and applicant tracking systems (ATS)
Strong attention to detail, organization, and compliance accuracy
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills with a customer-service mindset
Willingness to cross-train and support multiple HR functions
