Visual Concepts Lighting, Inc. (VCL) is a San Diego-based lighting design and electrical engineering firm specializing in exterior lighting, electrical design, utility coordination, and construction administration.
VCL serves municipalities, developers, public agencies, and design consultants on residential, commercial, public-space, and infrastructure projects throughout California.

Position Summary
VCL is seeking a full-time AutoCAD Drafter to support our lighting and electrical design team.
This position focuses on producing conceptual lighting plans, electrical construction documents, and utility coordination exhibits using VCL CAD standards. The Drafter will work with designers, project managers, and consultant drawings to maintain project base files and external references, incorporate revisions, and support coordinated drawing packages from concept through construction.
Responsibilities
- Prepare AutoCAD drawings for conceptual lighting plans, electrical construction documents, and utility coordination exhibits using VCL standards and templates.
- Create and maintain project base files; manage external references, layers, blocks, layouts, viewports, and standard drawings.
- Incorporate consultant updates, agency comments, utility requirements, client direction, and other project revisions into active drawing sets.
- Coordinate drawings and backgrounds with civil, landscape architecture, architectural, utility, and electrical design consultants.
- Review drawings and consultant backgrounds for accuracy, completeness, coordination, and compliance with VCL standards; perform quality-control checks.
- Prepare plan sets for permit, bid, project submittals, and construction.
- Coordinate with designers and project managers, participate in internal project meetings, and respond to changing priorities.
- Maintain organized project files and team information while managing multiple active projects and deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of professional AutoCAD drafting experience; 2+ years preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, including external references, layers, blocks and dynamic blocks, layouts, viewports, and plotting.
- Experience creating and maintaining project base files and technical or construction-related drawings.
- Understanding of architectural and engineering drawing scales.
- Ability to interpret plans, markups, sketches, specifications, and other technical information and translate them into accurate drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify drafting errors or inconsistencies.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines while working independently and collaboratively; strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following is preferred but not required:
- Lighting or electrical drafting/design
- Civil engineering, landscape architecture, architecture, or MEP
- Construction documentation, land development, public improvement, municipal, residential, or commercial projects
- Utility and consultant coordination
- Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Suite
Candidates with strong AutoCAD production experience from another architecture, engineering, or construction-related discipline are encouraged to apply.

Projects include residential communities; commercial, retail, and mixed-use developments; parks and recreation facilities; streetscapes and municipal infrastructure; schools; utility coordination; exterior lighting and site electrical distribution; and EV charging infrastructure.
Schedule
On site
- Monday through Thursday: 9-hour shifts; Friday: 4-hour shift
Compensation
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on AutoCAD experience, technical proficiency, relevant industry experience, and ability to independently produce and maintain construction drawings.
Location
San Diego, California 92111. Applicants must be able to reliably commute to our San Diego office; relocation assistance is not available.
