Full Job Description

Company Overview

PaveMasters is the premier commercial asphalt paving maintenance platform in the Southwestern United States, operating across five divisions in Southern California and Arizona. PaveMasters is growing rapidly through both organic growth and the acquisition of regional paving companies. This is a high-visibility opportunity to build institutional-grade financial infrastructure inside a company in active growth mode — with exposure well beyond traditional accounting management.

Position Summary

The Corporate Accounting Manager serves as the right hand to the VP of Accounting, owning the day-to-day integrity of the accounting function at both the corporate holding company level and across PaveMasters' branch/division operations. This role bridges corporate oversight and field-level execution — managing and developing branch controllers, overseeing corporate AP, partnering closely with payroll, and driving consistency, accuracy, and speed across the consolidated close. The Corporate Accounting Manager will play a central role in integrating newly acquired companies onto PaveMasters' accounting platform, standards, and controls, and will support the CFO, VP of Accounting, and Head of FP&A with analysis and ad hoc reporting as the company scales.

This is an ideal role for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and wants ownership across multiple functional areas beyond the traditional accounting manager scope.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Oversight & Team Leadership

Oversee the accounting function for the corporate hold co and provide functional oversight of accounting activities across all division/branch controllers
Directly manage, mentor, train, and develop branch/division controllers and the Corporate AP Manager; partner closely with the Corporate Payroll Manager on shared processes and controls
Build a scalable corporate accounting organization capable of supporting continued acquisition growth
Serve as an escalation point for complex accounting issues arising at the division level

Financial Close & Reporting

Partner with the VP of Accounting to streamline, standardize, and shorten the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process across all divisions
Drive adherence to close calendars and financial reporting deadlines company-wide; identify and resolve bottlenecks
Review and ensure the accuracy and integrity of consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting across corporate and division-level accounting

ERP & Systems

Serve as a key business owner of the accounting integrity within Sage Intacct (or successor ERP), ensuring proper chart of accounts structure, dimension/entity setup, and data integrity across divisions
Support ERP implementation, migration, and optimization initiatives, including onboarding of newly acquired entities
Partner with IT/implementation partners (e.g., SWK) on system configuration, reporting, and automation improvements

M&A Integration

Assist in leading financial and accounting integration of newly acquired companies, including opening balance sheet setup, chart of accounts mapping, ERP onboarding, policy alignment, and internal control implementation
Partner with division leadership during transition periods to ensure a smooth handoff to standardized corporate accounting processes and reporting cadence

Fixed Assets & Intercompany

Own fixed asset accounting company-wide, including additions, disposals, depreciation, CIP roll-forward, and reconciliation to the general ledger
Manage the reconciliation and accounting for intercompany activity across all entities, including intercompany loans, allocations, and eliminations in consolidation

Construction / Percentage-of-Completion Accounting

Ensure proper application of percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting and job costing across divisions, including WIP schedules, billings in excess/costs in excess analysis, and revenue recognition consistency
Partner with division controllers and project accountants to validate job cost accuracy and POC estimates

Analysis & Business Partnering

Provide financial support, analysis, and ad hoc reporting to the CFO and VP of Accounting as needed, including diligence and lender requests
Support the Head of FP&A with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis support as needed
Prepare and/or review account reconciliations, flux analysis, and management reporting packages

Process & Controls

Document and continuously improve accounting policies and procedures (AP, AR, month-end close, intercompany, fixed assets) across the platform
Identify opportunities for automation and standardization as the company scales toward PE-sponsor reporting expectations

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior people-management experience
Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring a team, including remote/multi-location direct reports
Advanced Excel skills and strong general comfort working with data
Experience managing multi-entity consolidations and intercompany accounting
Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, evolving, and occasionally ambiguous environment

Preferred

Extensive experience with Sage Intacct
Construction industry accounting experience, including percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting
Experience with payroll in a project/construction environment; familiarity with ADP and/or Paycom preferred
Experience with M&A integration, add-on acquisitions, or multi-entity platform accounting
CPA or CPA candidate a plus

Newly acquired companies are integrated onto corporate systems and controls smoothly and on schedule
Fixed assets and intercompany activity are clean, reconciled, and audit-ready at all times
CFO, VP of Accounting, and the Head of FP&A have reliable, timely analysis to support strategic decision-making

Reports To: Vice President of Accounting

Travel: Occasional travel required to division/branch locations for in-person work with local controllers and accounting teams, and to support onboarding of newly acquired companies' accounting functions

Pay: $150,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
