Direct Support Professional (DSP)
East County San Diego - Allied Gardens, CA 92120
Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00 Hourly
Sign on Bonus: $500 after 6 months of employment

Available Positions:
1. Part time (various shift times as needed)
2. Overnight 4days/10hrs schedule (11pm-9am)
3. Evening shift 3pm-11pm

New hires are eligible to receive a $500 sign-on bonus after successfully completing 6 months of employment, subject to applicable company requirements and eligibility criteria.

Optimum Residential Care (ORC) is a residential care provider in San Diego that delivers specialized support services for adolescents with developmental disabilities and behavioral support needs. The organization operates Community Care Licensed residential programs and works in partnership with regional service providers to ensure residents receive safe, structured, and individualized care.

Position Overview:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and supervision within a Community Care Licensed (CCL) residential setting, supporting residents in maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive home environment. The DSP assists individuals with daily living activities, skill development, and community participation while promoting independence and personal growth.

Direct Care Responsibilities:

Provide direct support to residents with developmental disabilities, promoting safety, independence, and personal growth within a structured residential environment.
Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, meal preparation, and medication assistance according to established care plans and agency procedures.
Support the implementation of each resident’s Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Individual Service Plan (ISP) by assisting with daily goals, activities, and skill development.
Maintain a safe and supportive living environment through attentive supervision and consistent implementation of behavioral and support strategies.
Transport and accompany residents to school, medical appointments, community activities, and recreational outings using agency vehicles when required.
Prepare meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and assist with kitchen clean-up and general household upkeep.
Perform additional duties as assigned or as needed to support the safe and effective operation of the residential program.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including daily notes, incident reports, medication logs, and other program records in accordance with agency policies and Community Care Licensing requirements.
Report incidents, concerns, or changes in resident behavior, health, or safety promptly to supervisors and appropriate team members.
Communicate regularly with supervisors, coworkers, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care and effective coordination of services.
Participate in staff meetings, required trainings, and program planning activities.
Assist in maintaining organized resident files and ensuring documentation is current and complete.
Support daily operations of the residential program and perform additional duties as assigned to maintain program safety, compliance, and overall effectiveness.
Assist with program operations, documentation, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications
Education

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Experience

Prior experience working with children or individuals with developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, or special needs in a residential, group home, foster care, or similar care setting is preferred but not required.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

Experience assisting individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs).
Familiarity with Individual Program Plans (IPP), Individual Service Plans (ISP), or Behavior Support Plans (BSP).
Experience with crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed care approaches.
Ability to document services accurately and communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, families, and clinical professionals.

Certifications & Training Requirements:
Employees must meet and maintain all certifications, clearances, and training requirements in accordance with Community Care Licensing (Title 22), Regional Center regulations (Title 17), and agency policy.

Agency Requirements

Maintain certification in an approved crisis intervention program (e.g., CPI).
Maintain a valid California driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and consent to DMV record review.
Participate in required monthly house meetings and staff trainings to support communication, program compliance, and resident care planning.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach throughout the work shift.
Ability to assist residents with mobility and daily living activities, including transfers when necessary and in accordance with training.
Ability to respond promptly to behavioral or safety situations, including implementing approved crisis intervention techniques when required.
Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including residential settings and community locations.
Ability to safely operate agency vehicles and transport residents to appointments, school, and community activities when required.
Ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout the entire shift, maintaining active supervision of residents at all times.
Willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and periods when residents are home during school breaks, school closures, or non-school days, as required to support program operations.
