Buck Creek Animal Clinic is looking for a part-time Veterinary Assistant to join our team.
We are a friendly, family-oriented clinic that values teamwork, compassion, and dependable care for our patients and clients. This position is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with animals, supporting a close-knit team, and learning new skills through cross-training. Although we are a small facility, we offer preventative care, education, Eastern and Western medical approaches to our patients.
Position: Part-time Veterinary Assistant

- Previous veterinary or animal care is helpful, but not required
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during medical examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing animals and handling restraint with confidence.
- Perform animal care tasks such as feeding, bathing, grooming, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of kennels, work stations, and treatment areas.
- Support laboratory work including sample collection, processing, and record keeping in compliance with veterinary protocols.
- Handle animal catheterization, injections, and other medical-surgical procedures following aseptic techniques and safety standards.
- Manage client communication at the front desk by scheduling appointments, answering questions, and providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain accurate records using veterinary software while adhering to Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations and USDA guidelines.
- Support emergency critical care situations by assisting with triage, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring proper animal restraint.
Requirements (recommended but willing to train if not experienced)
- Prior experience in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital setting is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and medical-surgical procedures.
- Hands-on experience with dog handling, animal restraint techniques, and pet care routines.
- Familiarity with veterinary software systems such as VetSoft or AVImark is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of aseptic techniques, laboratory procedures, and drug regulations including DEA compliance.
- Ability to perform duties efficiently while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for record keeping and documentation purposes.
