STORE MANAGER
Coburg, Oregon
Coburg Pizza Company is looking for an experienced restaurant leader to manage our original Coburg restaurant.
For more than 20 years, we have built Coburg Pizza Company around remarkable pizza creations and great food, memorable hospitality and service, and a genuine desire to treat people well.
We're looking for someone capable of leading the people and operations that make that happen.
This is a leadership job.
Our Store Manager isn't simply the person in charge of a shift. This person is accountable for the day-to-day operation of the restaurant: its people, staffing, training, execution, communication, standards, costs, and results.
We are looking for someone who can lead a restaurant of up to 30 employees, including 3–5 supervisors and shift leaders, and build an operation that functions consistently whether the Store Manager is personally standing in the building or not.
The Store Manager has considerable authority to lead and operate the restaurant. Company-wide areas such as marketing, menu development, and certain operating systems are developed above the store level; the Store Manager is responsible for successfully implementing and executing them at the restaurant.
What success looks like
A successful Coburg Pizza Company Store Manager builds and maintains:
- Consistently well-staffed shifts
- Strong, capable supervisors and shift leaders
- Consistent employee training and development
- Well-led shifts and dependable execution
- Excellent communication throughout the restaurant and with company leadership
- Schedules that meet the needs of the operation and are posted on time
- Active management of labor throughout each business day
- Achievement of established labor and other operating goals
- High standards for food quality, cleanliness, hospitality, and guest service
- A workplace where expectations are clear, and employees are held appropriately accountable
What you'll be responsible for
The Store Manager has primary responsibility for:
- Leading, coaching and developing approximately 20–30 employees, including 3–5 supervisors or shift leaders
- Recruiting and maintaining sufficient staffing before shortages become operational problems
- Interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining and, when necessary, terminating employees
- Developing supervisors and ensuring every shift is effectively led
- Creating and posting the employee schedule 7–9 days in advance
- Scheduling appropriately to anticipated sales and established labor goals
- Monitoring labor throughout each business day and making real-time staffing adjustments as business develops
- Monitoring sales, food costs, inventory, waste and other operating metrics and taking action when results are outside expectations
- Maintaining company standards for food preparation, portioning, quality and presentation
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, food safety and regulatory compliance
- Ensuring excellent guest hospitality and resolving guest concerns promptly
- Implementing company policies, promotions, menu changes, training and operating systems
- Maintaining equipment and restaurant resources and communicating repair or replacement needs
- Identifying operational problems and acting to solve them rather than allowing them to become recurring problems
Communication is part of the job.
Restaurant management depends on information reaching the right people at the right time.
Our Store Manager is expected to maintain consistent communication with supervisors, employees, the Operations Manager, and ownership; document significant operational information; respond promptly to calls, texts, and email; maintain regular communication with the restaurant's leadership team; and make sure changes, concerns, and expectations are understood and followed through.
We use 7shifts extensively for scheduling, communication and operational documentation, along with the Heartland/Genius POS system. Previous experience with either is helpful but not required.
Who we're looking for
Previous restaurant leadership experience is required.
You may already be managing a restaurant, or you may be an accomplished assistant manager who is ready to take responsibility for an entire operation. Previous experience specifically managing a pizza restaurant is helpful, but not necessary. We can teach our food, recipes, and systems.
We need you to bring a demonstrated ability to lead people and restaurant operations.
Strong candidates will be able to show that they have:
- Successfully led restaurant employees
- Helped build and maintain appropriate staffing
- Created and managed employee schedules
- Managed labor against established goals
- Trained and developed employees and emerging leaders
- Addressed poor performance rather than allowing it to continue
- Communicated reliably with employees, fellow leaders and those to whom they report
- Worked successfully in a high-volume, fast-paced restaurant
- Made sound decisions without requiring constant direction
- Taken responsibility for results—including when those results weren't good
We are interested in demonstrated ability, judgment, and leadership, not a particular educational credential.
Oregon Food Handler and OLCC permits are required and must be obtained and maintained as a condition of the position.
This is a working restaurant management position.
Our Store Manager leads from within the operation.
You should expect to spend substantial time on the restaurant floor, particularly during important service periods, and to work alongside the team when circumstances require it.
At the same time, the manager's responsibility is larger than filling a station. The job is to make sure the restaurant is properly staffed, trained, led, and operating well—not simply to personally cover whatever work has been left undone.
The position requires prolonged standing and the ordinary physical activity associated with restaurant operations. Reasonable accommodations can be considered where appropriate.
Schedule
This is a full-time management position, generally 45–50 hours per week over at least five days.
The Store Manager is expected to:
- Regularly work Friday and Saturday evenings
- Regularly work alternating Thursday and Sunday evenings
- Be present during important restaurant service periods
- Be reasonably reachable when away from the restaurant when management needs arise
Routine opening and closing shifts are not requirements of the position.
We also believe time away from work should actually be useful, so predictable days off are an important part of our management scheduling whenever operationally possible.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $62,000–$72,000 annually, depending on experience, plus performance-based bonus opportunities.
Benefits include:
- Paid vacation
- Employee meals and discounts
- Performance bonus opportunities
- Predictable days off whenever operationally possible
- Coburg housing may be available as part of an individualized compensation package
Additional compensation and benefit details will be discussed during the hiring process.
